Prices?
Helpful Tip: A LOT of stuff gets listed "For Sale" here on Club Cobra, 427 side oilers included. It has been my experience that those items not listed with a "ball park" price are NOT well excepted by the membership. In other words, there is the potential your setting yourself up to go down in flames. So don't get offended if and when it happens, it's just the nature of doing business here. On a second note: You can't beat pictures to get your message across. The members are "gear heads", they love pictures of pistons in a box, a bare crank, a bare block or what ever! Particularly "block numbers"! :D ...the last guy that listed a 427 side oiler left ONLY a long distance phone number and would provide ZERO additional information via Club Cobra to ANYBODY unless they called him. It got ugly pretty quick. See what happened here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...t=427+for+sale And on a different web site this result (from not posting enough information): http://www.ffcobra.com/cgi-bin/ultim...3;t=004100;p=0 |
FYI: There are lots of 390s and 428s marked as 66-427 on the back of the block.
What is the exact bore size of the blocks you are selling? Are they center oiler or side oiler? What is the name and telephone number of the shop that completed the machine work on the block(s)? What are the numbers on the crank and rods? Can you provide pictures of what you are selling? Details... |
427 BLOCKS
Hello... we did find out more about the product we were trying to sell and we have SOLD EVERYTHING BUT THE HEADS ...thank you dkrods

Thank You Excaliber
Excal.
You are right on. I see NO sense in someone posting a part for sale without a price. First QUESTION ALWAYS is HOW MUCH ARE YOU ASKING!!! I will not reply or look at items without a listed price. If you are affraid to post a price for the item, there must be a reason...... Just my .02 worth Cobracer |
These tactics must have worked out for dkrods, as his stuff sold faster than most do.
|
Tactics worked? I doubt it!
Probably a "local" sale and didn't have anything to do with Club Cobra, but I could be wrong.
No telling WHAT he was really selling, "66-427" casting numbers could be a lot of different engines. Your always better off selling locally when ever you can. |
Whatever.

With as much due respect as I can extend to my fellow CC brethren - you folks are all wet.
I don't believe the for sale rules require the poster to list price or details - Computerworks could clear that up for us. In my case I always list just about every imaginable detail possible - to a fault - but don't always want to list the price - sellers prerogative and that's fine. The few yahoo's who seem to post on nearly every thread are the same one's crying foul - most of the time. Oh, just in case everyone hasn't figured it out by now - CC is not the place to sell - we are all too cheap!!! BTW, I've got a side oiler for sale, standard bore, 650 hp., - for details call, for price too. :p (yes I'm kidding!) |
NETiquette, not "rules", there is a difference. Posting little or no information with an attractive "head line" and only a long distance phone number is rude. It "sensationalism", something the tabloids KNOW works well. I think it shows a lack of respect for your potential audience. Not just on CC, the FFR forum guys feel the same way. NETiquette applies across the Web, not just this site.

dkrods? Am I the only one seeing humor in this?
OK...are the heads OEM iron or Alum (EB)?) Mike |
iron heads
the heads have been researched and they are not for 427 but 390 heads and are cast iron not alum...we like to thank all the folks who helped me research these items which we had come accross and I 'm sorry that as a new member I didn't meet all you requirements that the members explained in their comments...the sale was made accross the country to some fellows that desired what we had thanks dkrods

dkrods,
Not a problem - you just have to realize we are a bit gun shy here because scammers come in now and then a try their best, so you might say we are an inquisitive group at the very least.:) |
Thank you DK RODS
I bought both motors, so I'll clear some smoke on this issue. For future reference; the seller is an honest and reputable person. He's in the Hot Rod body business, not the motor business. His post originated from a friend recommending Club Cobra as a site with contributors that would be knowledgeable in 427's and might have a preferred interest in acquiring them, as opposed to just throwing them up on ebay. Unfortunately, he got beat up in the process. We walked him through the numbers ID process on the heads and the blocks. Originally we thought they werre SO'rs, but they are 427TO'rs. One is standard bore with crank & original pistons and the other is a fresh bore, .030 over and ready for assembly with custom Aries pistions (minus some surface rust on the block). He wasn't trying to mislead anyone and was just selling them for a customer that needed a cash transfusion. All of us know Fords' wonderful, screwed up identification system from cast numbers to ink stamped blocks, depending on the yr/mth they were made, so you can appreciate his confusion. I think it is worthy to note that I had pressed him on the bore sizes and he had measured one of them wrong. As a security measure prior to shipping, he took them to a machine shop and had them measured by a professional. WITH MY MONEY IN HIS HAND, he called me & admitted he made a mistake on his original bore sizing on 1 of the blocks and he would return my money overnight mail if i didn't want to take the block or blocks. They were within our parameters, so I elected to take them both. I believe we call that integrity, and you can bet it wouldn't have happened on ebay. The blocks were wrapped, palleted, shipped and we recieved them in 3 days and the're at a shop, being readied for a build. He is a gentleman that is honest, fair, respectful and responsive, even to my late night phone calls. I'd do business with him again, in a heartbeat. I'm a cynical SOB too, but I prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt until they prove me wrong. Thanks again DK.

Bernie it's good to hear the seller was a straight shooter and you got what you wanted from the sell.
Obviously the original concerns surrounding these blocks and heads were indeed justified. "Inaccurate" postings concerning 427 "parts" is fairly common, my fault, your fault, nobodys fault, it happens. Due to the difficulty nailing down WHAT parts you have is tough when it comes to 427's! It will happen again with someone else and another "427". And when some member asks for additional information or "verification" it will look likes he's "beating up" someone. No easy way out for either party. :D |
