Virgin Cobra Wheels, BFGs never used

I have the original set of Halibrand/Trigo type knock off wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/As for sale. They came with my Superformance MkIII but original owner decided to use custom 17" set. They have never been mounted and are still wrapped in original shipping plastic. All tyres still have labels on them and white letters still have blue protective coating. Rubber is soft, wheels spotless. fronts: 245/60/15, rears: 295/50/15. I think $1300 would be a fair Clubcobra price before I put it on fleabay. No hub adapters or spinners, but they are easily obtainable from Vintage Wheel. Shipping at cost or local pickup from Long Island, New York.**)

Wheels/Tires

JCoop,
See eMail.
thanks,
grumpy

ps: Sent, dunno why you didn't get one. Then see pvt mail copy of questions. These are for a 98 SPF Friends car in upper East Texas that has a very rough original set on his car that he has abused swapping back and forth for race use.

How much would a set cost?
I'd like to offer it as an option for the fleabay listing.

Chris, got your EMail. They should fit 1454. I checked their upgrades and I don't think wheel backspacing was one of them. I'll get a quote from UPS. I think I can strap 2 together and ship as 2 packages.

Thanks

CHRIS DAMSCH 03-16-2006 11:26 AM

Chris, USPS won't take them, and UPS will but not insure them. I had concerns about marring the finish. They suggested breaking them up (dismounting tires) but aI don't think I want to do that. Sorry, I may have to sell to a local guy.:(

JCoop 03-17-2006 05:51 AM

Sold!

A local buyer is picking them up Sunday.

Thanks all for looking.

What happened here?
I guess Tire Rack and Discount Tire must have special shipping techniques?

No, Chris, and I have gotten tires from both of the suppliers you mention; but I'm not a tire distributor, store, or fulfillment house and haven't shipped wheels/tires before. We live in Glenwood Landing where we have no USPS delivery; we have to get our mail from the Post Office. I went there where I've picked up a few wheelsets shipped from the UK. They're usually strapped in 2s; which is how I described the packages would come to them. The Postmaster said ..."no, go to UPS." I did, and they said put the wheels outside faces inwards with a circular board in between and strap them or break them up and ship in 2s. I wanted insurance for $1000, they said no. Big hassle for me so I said forget it I don't have to sell the fuggin wheels.
In fact, I think I'll just keep 'em.

Mike,

I did last year in the hope of getting "stress relief". Being ultra-competitive, it ended up being more "stress" than "relief". That Mini is a blast, 1380cc Swiftune engine, twin 1.5" SUs, SW5 cam, 1.5 roller rockers, LSD, 5 speed Jack Knight straight cut tranny, carbon fiber hood and trunk, 10" slicks, trick suspension, etc.
This year, I'm just tracking the Cobra and the GT40. Maybe a time trial or two. No wheel to wheel racing for me lest I break out with colitis and/or psoriasis!

JCoop

I was just looking for an answer on what happened.

"I wanted insurance for $1000, they said no. Big hassle for me so I said forget it I don't have to sell the fuggin wheels.

Not really the way I would have put it to someone trying to purchase a product and take it off of your hands. Oh well.

I like your Mini by the way.........

mrmustang 03-18-2006 07:24 AM

I just shipped four wheels and tires for under $210 and that was half way across the country and with $1,000 insurance on each wheel  . UPS (not the UPS store or any of those wrap and pack places) is a wonderful thing. In the future, should you want to sell the rims and tires again, all you need to do is place thick cardboard on both sides of the wheels/tire assembly and tape them together. UPS will ship them just like that without a problem. As the rims/tires for the Cobra are a bit on the larger side, trying to strap them together brings them over the UPS weight limits and costs increase dramatically.

Hope you find this helpful.

Sincerely,

Bill S.
