looking for manufacturers of one-car trailers
Calling All Hands.
In a few months (God willing), I am going to need a trailer(!). I am looking for a ONE-car (maybe) two-axle, enclosed, lockable type which might double as an away-from-home "garage". Back door=drive on and off ramp, possible 110 wire-able, for lighting, tools, ventilation, etc. There have been some nifty ones posted (Flyin' Freddie, Silver Fox, Turk, etc.) but these seem to be two-car jobbies. If some people could point me in the right direction, re brands and/or manufactuerers, prices, weights, towing data, etc., I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Fred |
Fred,
Try these mfg's: Pace, HaulMark, or Wells Cargo. I've all three in small one car versions. However, I would suggest that you consider hauling other equipment in addition to the car. The cost difference isn't that much for the extra room. TL |
I only have 2 others that you may want to look at
CLASSIC DOMINATOR trailers are slightly pricey but light and can be seen at http://www.classicmfg.com/rtpage.htm the other is the Horton Hauler they can bee seen at. http://www.hortonhauler.com/cargo/default.htm these are a little less pricey and also light in weight. |
Fred,
If all you want to hold is just the car and not have room for a "shop" then a smaller trailer should be fine. Trailex (ww.trailex.com) makes some nice aluminum enclosed trailers with a v shaped front. One of our former Cobra owners (Aging Racefully) has one and LOVES it. Believe it or not, a 20-24 foot enclosed (like Freddie and I have) will only hold one car but have about 4-8 feet left over for generators, tool bench, etc. My 24 foot Pace weighs about 3500 lb without a car and all the other "stuff" that's in there, so depending on what you are towing (in your case a Cobra) it gets real easy to have 6-7,000 lbs behind your vehicle. That is why those Trailex's are so nice, real light. Enclosed is great if you are concerned about weather and debris on the highway. I bought mine used, and if you have time, it is what I would recommend. The brakes and axles need checking as they are the most expensive items to replace. Good luck |
Hey!
Fred,
Check my pics on my 24' Pace Shadow GT. If you have any questions, e-mail me direct. Eric :D |
Toy Collector,
The enclosed Trailex trailer looks pretty cool. Does any one have an idea on the price range? There are no Trailex dealers in Oklahoma, but if the price is right, it may be worth a trip into the lone star state. Okiesnake |
They aren't cheap. I think just over 10K new , but I heard that 2nd hand so it may be less or more.

Thanks to All,
I am going to buy the least expensive one which will: 1) haul the car and 2) serve as an unbreachable away-from-home "garage". Reading about that tragic theft of Mariah AND the outrageous theft of that beautiful white-and-blue SPF with the 'way trick motor got me thinking. I think I'll go for just enough room for some spares and tool-boxes and very possibly a chaise-longue in which I will put Jim (of "Gems" fame) and his choice of select and repeat-fire ordinance (and Wild Turkey Special Reserve, Bombay Sapphire, etc.). You readin' this Jim, me broth? |
Sure, J.D. and I are old friends. So is Mr Smith and Mr. Wesson. I shoot well and need the job. Will work for seat time. LOL
