427 valve covers for windsor blocks

A while back, I saw some valve covers on evilBay. They were cast aluminum with fins and 427 cast into them. They fit the Windsor small blocks, but were shaped like the FE Cobra valve covers. Goofy, but I like goofy things...

I have a set of the ones you saw on eBay. Haven't installed them yet as the engine isn't finished. They look really nice, well made and clear roller rockers because of the pent roof design. P.A.W. sells them also or did as of my last catalog. They are kind of rare though.
You can use adapters and real FE covers. It does make for more chance of oil leaks because you have two gasket surfaces per side instead of one, but others have done it w/o leaks.
There are also these: http://performanceunlimited.com/cobr...lvecovers.html
Beautiful but please make sure your sitting down BEFORE looking at the price!

Well, they are quite proud of those, aren't they? Do you know who made yours?

I think the 427 valve covers for the small block you are loooking for are made by Classic Speed in Chatworths, California. Go to ebay and enter Item # 8051445976 and you can view them. They go for around $230.00 and look really good.

Yep, that's the ones I have. I like the ones from Performance Unlimited better but I wasn't going to pay that price for sure!

I have the Performance Unlimited tall valve covers on my 351W, and am very happy with the "look". The quality is great.... and the engine bay draws a lot of attention when open!! Not cheap, but you get what you pay for :)

WOW, I really like how that dresses up a small block! I'd consider the next step Jim, a more 'correct' looking distributor would go well with those valve covers!

Jim Kellogg 08-27-2006 06:55 PM

Ernie,
Thanks. I am happy with my setup. A distributor upgrade IS in the future, as are better heads, stroker upgrade, better carb....
Maybe I should just get a BB :)

BTW, great job on your 427SO build!!!

Guys,

There is a company that machines an adapter for 351w heads to accept actual 427 FE valve covers. This is the way to go.

My engine uses adaptor plates. Check my gallery for pictures.

I hope I'm not fracturing any rules by making this post but I am the person who makes the adapter kits mentioned by 1985 CCX and w.lewis. I m not a company but merely an individual who loves Cobras and had the resources available to be able to produce this item for other Cobra guys. I won't turn this into a commercial but I would be happy to answer any questions personally or via the link below.

The pentroof covers offered by PAW are a very nice item for the money. They do give the essence of originality but, of course, cannot display "Cobra 427" without stepping on toes. For those individuals who want the real thing, then the adapter kit is the way to go. Either way, the engine looks much better.

Below is a photo of my 351W with the adapters, original chromed pentroofs and a couple of other 427FE goodies that were adapted to the 351W.

SuperHart,
You motor looks great with the (2) quads! Where were you when I had adaptors made? My friend who built my car, made my adaptors from scratch. We went through a few oil leak problems and gasket changes before they worked properly. They are fine now, but I hope I don't have to remove the v covers anytime soon. I would have preferred to buy them already made, as it would have been much quicker, but my friend enjoys a challenge so he would have never let me!

SuperHart,

Here is a challange, can you make this adaptation for 351C? If so, sign me up and start the process. I would love to be the test car for that! Maybe a reducing plate with a height that would clear the roller rockers? I have plenty of head room under the hood to add additional height. I even have some old covers I could send to you for the test pattern!

BTW: Great looking car!

Email me at jdgagnon1@juno.com if you think it viable.

Hey SuperHart
Not to change the subject but do you have any info on the dual quad from PMC for 351W?
I thought it was supposed to be out earlier this year but their site hasn't been updated. I don't want to bug them too much, so I wondered if you had any news.
