I wish you good luck, it is a worthy goal to find and build your own motor. It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done with my Cobra.

Tony,

Why don't you start from scratch. You can buy brand new blocks from Gensis, Pond, Shelby. All Aluminum would be nice as well. May need some deep pockets though. Good luck. I may build one myself before long.

You'll pay $3000 for a 427 CO from a boat, of which the only thing yuou can really use are block and maybe crank. A good complete rebuildable 427 SO is going to be $5000 or more. Obviously, you may find a great deal, but you may have to wait, and ultimately may never find a great deal.

If you want to buy a rebuildable engine, get a 390 or 428, and then buy a new iron 427 block, and rebuild the engine using the 427 block, and then sell either the 390 or 428 block. If you want to use original heads, then maybe spring for a rebuildable 428CJ, using those heads. If you want to use new aluminum heads, then get either a 390 or galaxie 428 engine (getting a 428 crank).

The best seller of FE blocks I have seen or spoken with is a gentleman that auctions them on eBay. He has an extensive inventory and from speaking with him that is his game. He is based in Oregon. Take a look over there and give him a call. I can dig up the info if need be.
