I was told that the DMV keeps a few aside for screwups as well as some come back as "return to sender, address unknown." Additionally, the DMV audits for any nonsense like dealers trying to get 5 of them or whatever the number they want.
As this point, they've probably sorted through all of them, so keep trying. |
Plates?
For those of you in the know, when in this process do we get out standard plates?
What if we want vanity plates? When would that be? Thanks, rodneym |
You would get standard-issue plates as soon as the registration is approved, allow six weeks for delivery.
I ordered my vanity plates at the same time I started the CA registration process. They came in in early December but I was unable to pick them up until the final stamp was banged on the registration packet last week. The clerk applied those plates to the vehicle as part of the final process. I'd suggest you order them about two months before you expect to get your registration. |

If you know you're going to want vanity plates, order them in advance and you won't have to wait for either them or standard plates. They'll just assign your waiting plates when you complete the reg. You have to do everything at one DMV office, though, so that the plates are there when you finish the process.

Thanks guys.
Good advice. rodneym |
Gunner, knowing you want personalized plates and figuring out what you want stamped on your personalized plates are two entirely different things.

If you haven't figured out what you want and searched for its availability by the time you're trudging through the SB-100 process... :D :D :D

I just got my new Pink in the mail. After having completed all the steps for SB100, a vin tag by CHP, a blue sticker from BAR and completion from DMV, there is no mention of an SB100 number on my pink.
The year is 0000 and the Make is SPCNS. Isn't there supposed to be more info. on the Pink? Prior to all this effort ( my car was registered in Ca. for 16 yrs. as a 65 Ford, yr. model, 0000. Thanks for any input. |

Once you have the pink all of other stuff does not matter, the BAR sticker included. For the rest of the life of the car it can be sold in California and be smog exempt. I said this earlier and there will be opinions to the contrary but, I have sold three cars with the SPCNS titles and one of them did not have the BAR sticker on it. It is the title that you have in your hands that matters the most. Tony R. |

Thanks for the New Pink Slip info.
I was concerned about the non-transferrable language in the BAR paperwork and the inspector explained that it only meant that I couldn't transfer the paperwork and sticker to another car..... My local DMV didn't know what anything meant about anything. |

I've got everything but the sticker for my license plate, which was supposed to come in the mail well before the title (I'm keeping my old plates). Anyway, SAC DMV told me that if it doesn't show up in the mail, go to the local DMV before my TOP expires and get a replacement sticker.
Anyway, does anyone in the RPV area know a guy by the name of Matt, has a BDR I believe, lives at the top of the hill off Crenshaw, was at the Torrance DMV with me and another fellow early Jan. 4? I've somehow managed to lose his contact info and would like to stay in touch with him. Thanks |
