Florida registration-Antique plates
Hi-
I'm thinking of registering in Florida and have seen a few threads here and there that say a new Cobra replica can be titled as a "1965 replica" and that will entitle you to use either the "Antique" plate or an "authenticated" used license plate from 1965. Since my car is an FIA, the correct year would actually be 1964. My question is does anyone know if can I designate it as a "1964 replica" (simply because the 1964 plate colors will look better with my car's color) or are all Cobra replicas designated "1965 replicas"? Also, I assume the "Antique" registration is optional, since it requires that the vehicle only be used in parades, exhibitions, etc. In other words, if I went with a regular registration, can I still get the "1965 replica" (or, hopefully, "1964") designation? I registered ERA 774 (2010) as 1966 replica. DMV accepted without question as MSO from ERA said 1966.

I registered my cobra last June in fla. Mine was titled as a 67 replica because that was what was on the bill of sale. I got an antique tag by choice. Doing so I saved $250 There are no restrictions as to when or where I can drive my car. Your driving restrictions would be set by your insurance company. If I remember right a special plate cost a little more. Overall titling my car was very easy. If you are transferring from NY they will use the info from that reg. also ask around as to which DMV to go to, I found that the ones outside of the larger cities are easier to deal with. Good Luck

The FLORIDA ANTIQUE plates are a "sky blue" color. You just have to ask for them as "you are entitled" to use antique plates under Florida's new law, under which, any replica car is titled as the year it replicates". All antique plates are the same color. I had antique plates on my old cobra, which I bought used from a guy in North Carolina - where it was registered as a 1965 Ford. Got my new ERA registered 3 years ago, under the new Florida law.

We live in WV but have a home in FL where we plan to retire to in a year or so. I'm thinking about changing to a FL registration (using my FL residence address) on my SPF, but continue to keep it in WV until we move. For this short time it won't legally be an issue.
My question is, can I do this (in person) at a FL DMV office without taking the car to FL and them physically seeing the car? Rodger |

Just got ERA154 registered in Central Florida as a 1965 Cobra. She even asked me the weight, which I am sure I lied a little at 2400 lbs. Got the sky blue antique plate, piece of cake. Since I didn't have a bill of sale, only the Oregon title, she took my word for what I paid for calculating sales tax... ;-)

JEFF When you Register Tile and Florida Plate either antique or regular your Cobra will be register as a replica forever. You will have to buy your insurance from a florida insurance company or Florida agency. Florida insurance is more expensive than other states, ie Illinois . Further, ther is no discount for an historic plate. RHM |
