Registering an out of state car in NC
I'm considering putting an offer in on a car in Wisconsin that is titled in Wisconsin. Is it a pain to title one in NC or is it fairly straight forward?

Flounder. It depends a lot on how it was built and how it is titled now. According to the NC statutes, if it's a replica vehicle, it will be "titled as the year, make & model of the vehicle intended to be replicated". I recently bought a BDR from Pennsylvania that was titled as a "special construction" with no year on it. DMV would not give me a tag until it was inspected by someone from their License & Theft Bureau. I had the Certificate of Origin from Backdraft, so that helped. The inspector filled out the paperwork to be titled as a 1965. If the Wisconsin car is already titled as a 1965, or whatever year, that will probably save you some time. By the way, the inspector was very nice and easy to work with. If you get the car and they offer to give you a 30 day tag, take it. I didn't because I thought I'd be able to go to DMV when I got the car home and just pick up the tag...wrong. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks!! I hope to get something completed here shortly and hopefully won't have any issues. Actually looking at a car out of Florida and have come to an agreement.

My BDR was titled it Tennessee. No problems transferring it to NC. It is also registered as a 1965 Replica. Quick trip to the DMV and about 6 weeks later I had a tag.
With it regestered as a Replica, it is not eligible for a reduced taxes and the use of an antique tag. Good Luck |
The one I've bought is registered in Florida at a 1965 Ford Convertible and is currently running antique tags. Anybody forsee any issues with that?
