Washington Re-title

I've searched the site and can't find what I know I've seen before so I'll have to ask! I want to get my SPF 2608, manufactured in 2007, re-titled as a 1965 Cobra under the new 5585 law. I want to use the vintage 1963 license plate I have. A picture of the plate is attached. Can I use the vintage plate and what is the name and number of the DOL person in Olympia that would be a good contact if there is a problem? No inspection or smog is necessary in Whatcom County. Thanks!

Hi:

I live in Oregon, and can't give you all the info you want. However, I can tell you that I think it's unlikely they will let you use a 1963 plate on a 1965 car. In Oregon, you can use a vintage plate but I believe it has to be of the same year as the vehicle.

Good luck!

That plate will work fine. I had the same ones on my Cobra. You'll need to get a 65 sticker for it though. PM me if you want to know where to get one.
As far as getting the title changed, don't go to a sub-agent. They know nothing. Go to an actual DOL office. They should be able to take care of you there.

I have a 65 sticker. I was going to the county DOL office. Would be great to have the name/number of the knowledgeable contact in Olympia. I'm actually going to be down in Olympia this week. Would it be better to get it done down there?

On a side note, I wonder why I can't search this site and find that info? What key word do I search on? I've tried 5585 and nothing comes up, absolutely nothing!

Hi Ward,
Try this for info on WA retitling:
WA 5585 Retitle Success! - FFCars.com : Factory Five Racing Discussion Forum
Call Bob Randolph at Olympia (360) 902-3713. He got John Bennett retitled without an inspection and walked the local DOL office thru the procedure. I had an inspection done in Bellevue and retitled mine in Clark County. It's unclear at this point whether inspection is necessary with retitles. You may have a problem with the antique plate since it's a 1963 and you want to title as a 1965. If you can't reach Bob Randolph try Sheila Hadden (360) 902-3718 at Olympia. I don't think you can title cars at the Olympia State DOL, but I could be wrong. Bennett and I are the only 2 retitles so far as I know. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the update. I went down Friday and the county person called someone that worked for Sheila and they directed me to the highway patrol for an inspection. Since my baby was still on jack stands I couldn't go Friday. Think I'll call Bob Randolph tomorrow (Monday) and ask if inspection is really necessary. Unfortunately, my current license expired last week so I have some fine/extension to pay for that. Funny thing is, I went down a week ago (before my license expired) and the offices were closed to save money.....
