NY Residents Voice Support for Registration Bill

These come up every year and not enough people take the 5 minutes to show their support. This is an opportunity to make ownership now or in the future easier for replica and custom cars. Please take a look:

SEMA Action Network (SAN) AA2017NY5

Sometimes people don't know what they can do. It's pretty simple. There's a link there to email the necessary lawmakers.

All you have to do is add a quick introduction such as "My name is Larry Smith and I am a 20 year resident of NY and also a car collector. Please support A.B. 6563 on my behalf. The highlights of this bill include:

A.B. 6563 allows for the use of non-original materials and creates a titling criterion that assigns these vehicles the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

A.B. 6563 exempts street rods and customs from a range of standard equipment requirements (only that equipment required in the model year that the vehicle resembles) and emissions inspections.

A.B. 6563 provides that vehicles titled and registered as street rods and custom vehicles may only be used for occasional transportation, exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, etc. and not for general daily transportation.

A.B. 6563 provides for special license plates for street rods and custom vehicles and permits the use of blue dot taillights.

Thank you."

Thank you I just sent an e-mail to support A.B. 6563. I also live in NY.

Done.
Of course I have emailed and called my state representative every year on this and have never had the "honor" of so much as replay or even a "screw you, please go away" message.

Most New York State Assembly and Senate members are too busy padding their pockets or trying to stay out of prison to give any time to a bill that does not benefit them directly as they do not see the automotive hobby as an organized lobby or either a threat nor benefit to them.

Well, out of the list of legislators I contacted, I DID get two automated replies that tell me "we get a lot of email" so I doubt that my letter will be read, but we will keep trying!

I thought these things went nowhere for a long time too. But I have seen laws get changed in CT over the years and my emails have shown up on the record for final consideration. I was most amazed how few people though took the time to do a simple email with all the car owners / clubs / etc. that there are.

I'm new here. Did this or anything similar ever pass in NY?

No. It is still floating around the legislature. There is no representative championing it who the juice to get it done.
