Default Titling a new Backdraft Cobra in Colorado with a 1965 MSO

HI Gang

Need your advice from Colorado experts...

A customer is purchasing a new Backdraft Cobra from us. It will be on MSO as 1965 Ford and titled in Lakewood Colorado.

With a 1965 Ford MSO what is required to title in Coloardo as a 1965 Ford as stated on the MSO?

Thanks

Jeff

If the car only has an MSO, and no title or registration, then it can (and should) be titled as a "Kit Car". As a kit car, there never needs to be a smog check. But, it will be titled per the year on the MSO.

If the car has a title from FL (like mine did), then it gets titled as a regular car. If the current title is for a 1965, then he can get collector car plates. They're good for 5 years, and save a bunch of money. Also, no smog check required.

Mine had a CA title as a 1965 Shelby Cobra (naysayers go away, whether it was correct is not up for debate). CO titled it as a 1965 Shelby Cobra, gave me a registration that was $65 for 5 years + 15/year for the vanity plate. I did have to pay sales tax on the purchase price. I had to (in 2009) pass emissions ONCE and with the fuel injection problems it was a touch-n-go but I did squeak by.
