Registering a new Backdraft in Delaware
Recently i purchased a new Backdraft and when researching for registration info for Delaware i found very little information so i thought i would post what i learned. The Delaware laws have recently changed regarding emission testing so i was very concerned. My car has a Coyote motor.
Anyway the process was very easy. I took my car to the Georgetown inspection station. At the inspection station they tested lights, hi/lo beams, turn signals, running stop-brakes, horn, wipers. They did not sniff exhaust or hook up OBDii to check emissions. They checked the VIN number under the hood like 3 times... the car passed with no problem. Took the paperwork into the DMV, paid the doc fee tax, and it was registered as a 1965 Shelby, Replica is noted on the registration. They gave me my registration card, tag, and off i went. Easy Peasy |
Greetings croixboy, welcome to the world of Cobra's. I'm in Lewes also and have found no problem dealing with the DMV in Georgetown. Hopefully I'll see you tooling around the area.
best of luck with your Backdraft, if you have any questions or want to talk Cobra's let me know. Art Fink |
Welcome to the site. I bought my Unique 289fia from a gentleman in
Massachusetts. Took it through the inspection lanes near Delaware City. They checked the basics, no smog check. It was registered as a 1964 Ford in Massachusetts, and that is what Delaware did. The only tense moment was when the lady tried to look a 1964 Shelby Cobra and her NADA book didn't go that far back. I was hoping that she didn't say a 1964 289fia cobra was worth 5 million dollars! That would have been a killer tax bill. Luckily, she accepted the value as stated on the bill of sale. |
Art/NorDel Garage: thanks for your responses. Yeah i was super happy about the whole registration process. i also got the vanity plate i wanted: UNREAL
