NJBB,
How soon do you expect to start the process with the DMV? Just curious, as I will hopefully be staring the process in a few short months. Keep us posted on your progress, and any additional info you may come across.

NJ registration

gentlemen,
I believe based on my experiece with the Corzine gang that there are two separate issues. First you have to get a basic safety and completion inspection. (I missed this as mine is an Auto Kraft), then depending on the year (mine is an 86) qualify for collector car status. this exempts you from meeting and being inspected for emmision and safety equip(although I can pass both if I find the headrests and mufflers). You do have an odo check every two years and they make you drive arround until you trip the one mile digit to the next position. there is a 3000 mile limit. The folks at Eatontown were great to work with and the "inspection" (check the odo) took place next door and took 20 minutes for processing.

Hi I am retired now so I will have the time to order and complete my car this year. I will order this month so that it arrives in March/April time frame and is completed during the summer. I already have my engine which is a D0VE block 429 and I am tearing into it to get it ready for the car. I will run a C6 in it but will set it up to convert to stick if I decide to later. (bad left knee). I had heard from others that your car had to meet certain requirements for "collector" status , but apparently you guys had no problem with that.Do you have to make some special application for collector car status registration or just go to your local MVC office and ask for it( after the inspection/title of course) ?Are future odometer checks done at the local inspection station? Did they put a seal on your odometer cable? Thanks to all for the advice.:)

Once you have the title to the car, just go down to your local MVS office and ask them for the "collectors registration" form. Fill it out and when they finish you'll have an extra "voucher" which gets handed in to the DMV inspection station (go around to the end of the building where their office is as you do not get in the regular inspection line) when they key in your car and current odometer reading. It really is that simple unless you go to the Randoph, NJ station at which point you can argue until you are blue in the face with the manager who still keys in 1,500 miles annually instead of 3,000 miles annually and refuses to call into Trenton to straighten out his misinterpretation of the rules (even when you handed him a copy of the rules printed from the DMV website)............

Come on, this never happens ... :JEKYLHYDE ;)

Of course the trick to fixing this is to nod your head, keep your mouth shut, let him do his thing, slap a sticker on the windshield, then go home and call the MVS and have them correct it in the system so it reads the proper annual mileage :D .......Works every time.............

Bill-
I've been to Randolph a couple times now and never had that problem. Maybe it is just you- maybe they know you're a bad driver and they are trying to limit your time on the roads of NJ.
