Calif reg from Wa state question..
OK, my 2001 SPF car was registered in Wa state. The pink slip showed 2001 SuperFormance. I went to my local DMV here in calif and they took my pink, I paid my sales tax (Grr), and I was given registration type print out. On the top page it says "SMOG insp required and Verification of VIN by Peace Officer or authorized DMV employee". On the bottom registration section it says "Incomplete application-see above-this is not an operating permit".
I know I need the SB100. But, do I need to hit the BAR for an inspection to get the SB100? Or, is SB100 just a DMV thing? What should my next step be? |
Get that Pantara back and trade it for a sb100 spf......honestly I think you should go back to the dmv and ask them what steps to follow. We can only speculate and wish you into a good position. The dmv will tell you what you need.

Still looking for a way to get this done! Why did you have to pay sales tax in California? Did you just buy the car from someone in Washington and bring it directly to California? Seems to me that you should pay tax in the state in which you purchased the car, if there is any tax. If I buy something in Arizona, I pay the tax there and not in California if I bring it back here. Maybe with cars it is different? Anyone know the answer here. It just seems funny that California benefits from an out of state sale! SkipB |

There are a bunch of good threads on CC regarding CA registration. I'm in the market for a car and have spent some time searching this site trying get up to speed. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/registration-forum/68739-ca-reg-plans-top-now-waiting-2007-sb100.html My guess is that you have two options. One is take your car through the SB1578 process (basically SB100 for an out of state car). Second option is to pass the smog test (pretty tough). Best of luck! |
Yea, I bought my car from a dealer in Washington state, and it was delivered to me in California. I had to pay the sales tax for Calif since it was delivered straight here to me, and I'm trying to register it here. Trying being the key word!

You will definitely be going the SB1578 route, to bad you were not in line on Jan2, now you will have to wait until next year. What you want now is to get you TOP from DMV, then get an appointment with CHP to check the VIN number. That will take maybe a month to get since most CHP sites that do that only do it a couple times a month. If your TOP has run out go back to DMV for another telling them you need to go to BAR for the smog test. You will fail, all this time you are driving the car. If you are lucky you can go back after you fail the smog test and your TOP has run out and ask them for another TOP saying you are attempting to pass smog. IF your lucky you can get 6-9 months of driving on these TOP's. Then get in line next Jan and get your SB1578 smog exemption. Much easier if you had bought a SB100 car, there are quite a few on Cobra Country. Good luck.
