Southern Cal registration
I've been researching Cobra MANUFACTURERS FOR ABOUt A year now. So after all that and getting real excited about the build, I'm a bit hesitant to move forward due to the registration issues. If I can't obtain a sb-100 registration, are their any other options.?

The only other one is to move out of state. This may be a good idea as California is just going nuts on environmental stuff. Starting soon, waterborne paint only for refinishing cars! No bottled water now in San Francisco offices. It supposedly will help save the planet from global warming. Huh? How long before they come looking for our cars? I saw a Toyota Prius cruising the neighborhood the other day. It was stealth black with tinted windows. Could it be Arnold's secret police? My advice. Don't worry about SB100. Just be prepared with all your paperwork and a full checkbook and all should go well. Skip B |
On that topic, Roush does have a line of motors that are Smog compliant. The cost is higher and the power is much lower... but they do get around the SB100 circus.

I am waiting my appt to see if the what the DMV told me is true but I was told that they will exempt my car from smog now due to the age of the motor.. We will see. If not I will have to smog it every two years. I have also considered going for an SB-100 but there is no guarantee on getting one. I ran into a guy a couple of days ago that has an SPF and he is on his second year with no reg for california because he has been unable to get an SB100 both times he went to the DMV in January. I was following the SB100 action/threads on CC in January and there was few (if any) people who didn't get their SB100 numbers. No doubt there are cases where someone didn't get a number (screwed up DMV office, documents not in order, etc.).
It's definately a gamble, but if you have your docs in order, align with a group of people, and go to a DMV office that understands the process, you have a good chance. I'm going the SB100 route in January...probably won't get much sleep in late December :JEKYLHYDE . |
Another Line, but same question
If you purchase a used cobra that is legally titled and registered in another State, does anybody know what is involved in the process of legally registering the car for use in CA?

Same process for cars registered out of state. SB100 (I think it's some other SB number, but the same steps) or smog the car by the engine block.
No easy way out :mad: . You'd thing our cigar smokin', Hummer drivin' gov could do something for the little guy. Oh yeah, he's gone green ;) |

Ditto.. Thanks for all your advise. Moving out of Ca in 6 years but would like to build one now. Suggestions on how to locate a late 60's 351w would be helpful..
