I am having issues with the NYS DMV. Does anyone know where i can find DOT approved lights/lenses that can replace my lucas L-488's? I appreciate the help

Ryan,
I posted this on two forums and found no source. I finally bought a couple of reflectors at the parts house and put them on the fuel tank cover. They excepted that here in Texas. you might ask if that would work where you live. Steve |
DOT lights
I live here in upstate NY and a friend of mine just had the same problem. He went to NAPA and bought a couple of rectangular trailer lights that had the DOT approval on the lens' and he installed them until they passed the inspection process and then he installed the originals. He told me that he didn't figure that they'd ever be checked for that again.

Hi rtstrack
I registered my Cobra in NY two years ago. A couple of things that may help you: You do not need DOT light lenses for anything other than headlights. All the others need to be SAE spec. I bought Lucas 539 in red and amber from FinishLine in Florida. No problems. I dont know what problems you are having but nobody checked my car for light lenses, or any specification issues. All these things are self certified on a form that the tech services dept in Albany will send you. You simply fill out the form listing the DOT numbers on the tyres, windshield and headlights and the SAE numbers on the turn signals, brakes etc. At the safety inspection, these things are not checked; they are simply looking for stolen components. When you go for your "safety inspection" be sure to have all your receipts as they are very rigorous in their checks. For example, if you have a used or rebuilt engine/transmission you need to know the VIN of the donor vehicle and prove you obtained it legally. Hope this helps John |
