La title and engine id number

I have a 1995 Mustang Cobra 5.0L engine in my Cobra. The car was bought used and was in my name at one time. My son drives it in his name now. If there is a number stamped on it, I can't find it. There is the usual casting info near the starter. I worked at a Ford dealer for thirty five years and don't remember any mention of a "motor" ID number" on a Ford block. Ricky on the FFR site just got his title about three months age. Said his 5.0 had a number "stamped" on top of the block behind the intake. Mine has a small machined area there but nothing stamped. Any problem in Louisiana???

Just starting the Louisiana title process and welcome any helpful info Thanks Ron

Ron:

Back ten years or so when I was on the verge of getting an FFR kit, I spoke with the local DMV and state police about titling/registering a "kit car". The DMV doesn't have that much to do with the process, the state police DO.... They adivsed they would have to do an inspection on the finished car and required reciepts for the major donor components, i.e.:engine/trans/rear end and such... I had a wrecked donor car lined up and they told me the title to such a car would suffice in lue of the reciepts, showing proof where the donor parts came from. Without that, they said any reciept for the parts be it from a parts place, individual, engine builder,salvage yard,Jegs,Summit or whatever would do....

I would think a reciept form your son would do for the engine. I would also suggest getting with your local state police first and finding out exactly what they will require of you before you go in for any inspection. I know of one guy that did this and brought in a folder of receipts and bills, he breezed thru his inspection in record time.. Just get them what they require before going in and you should have no problems.......

I'm like you, never seen any numbers on any 302s/351-Ws cept the casting number, you may want to put the casting numbers off your engine on a reciept, just in case they decide to check it out closely, at least the number will match..........

Good luck;

David
