HELP - Kansas Problems with MSO

I'm buying a 75% complete roadster from a guy in CO. The car has never been titled, and he has the original MSO from FFR in his name. Kansas is telling us that he cannot sign over the MSO since he is not a dealer.

Any suggestions???

My MSO has a place on the back to sign over to a new owner. Should be all you need.

I've seen those spaces, but the state of Kansas will not honor that since he is not a dealer.

They have recommended a "Quiet Title" route along with an attorney...

Wow, and I thought California was strict!

Have him title it (without registering it) and immediately place the title in storage. Then you can transfer the title and place the plates in storage until it's complete.

This is true in Michigan also...you must be a licensed dealer to sign the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin.

Call FFR and see if they can issue a duplicate that is not signed...??? If you return the original they may be able to help.

PS... If you can not get a clear MSO, do not buy the car.

Kansas MSO

I would recommend calling Gary Thiessen of the Ks. Highway Patrol at 785-296-1346. Gary works out the Topeka office at 2nd and Gage. He handled the paperwork on my Kirkham last year and is a very nice guy. However, my circumstance was somewhat different from yours in that I bought my car directly from Kirkham as the manufacturer vs. a previous owner.
