In the Garage just before we went on the track in the morning and the guy in the photo is Harvey Gifford who played a hugh part of our event. Harvey came from Omaha just to volunteer, he spent a lot of time running up and down the stairs with the timing operator.

On Friday I grabbed my camera and made a quick pass around the garage area just to document that I had actually been to Run and Gun. That week absolutely took every ounce of energy I could muster. What fun! Please check our web site: http://www.runngun.net for updates and changes for next year. See the Announcement section on the Home Page upper right corner.

Larry, I'm honored my car made in your gallery. I guess the red tape on the headlights make it look racey, my times sure don't! I'll see you next year if not before. Would love to make it texas in the spring, not sure if it will happen though. Later.

Hey Mat, How is it going?

Good to meet you and your father. Hope your engine is better.
Mine let loose on a Sunday drive. 16 valves and push rods.

Thanks for more pictures. I had a great time at Run and Gun.

Clois Harlan 11-15-2007 08:13 AM

Mat has a story to tell you to about his engine. But, I certainly don't want to steal his Thunder.

Tony it was great meeting you as well. My dad and I enjoyed ourselves greatly. I don't think my engine let go as bad as yours, but the results might not be to different. I did find 2 broken valve springs and pulled the heads. I figured I may as well pull the motor to freshen it up some. I found the #3 rod bearing spun and feel lucky thats all it did. The crank has some cracks in it as well. So a low end rebuild is in order with a new crank and lots of misc parts that add up quick. I'm sure you know the routine. It will be dyno tuned as well, so maybe I'll knock off a half second next year. Hopefully we'll see you then.

Ouch Mat. I feel your pain.
If you have to go with an after market crank.

Scat crank snouts are inconsistent. I don't know yet if the crank bolt was not torqued properly or the harmonic balancer was not able to be pulled in tight as it didn't fit properly on the crank. the result was the crank gear cutting through he woodruff key then the cam stopped turning.
I am going to magnaflux the crank to make sure it is not cracked at the snout. I am leaning toward the latter as I have two friends that had the same issue with the snout diameter.
My engine has less than 2000 miles on it. I only laugh to keep from crying.

WildBill3 11-15-2007 07:07 PM

Our engine Guru Kevin at K@M machine hates those inexpensive cranks as you have seen thay can lead to alot of wierd :JEKYLHYDE problems down the line his sugestion to me was stay away from them.As spoken on a different thread here BB Ford cranks from Crower are pricey but not having to go back and redo  has value to me and others here.Hope you can get it worked out...WB3

951mat 11-15-2007 09:54 PM

My builder was ordering an eagle crank for replacement. I'm really don't know alot about them, but not really sure who else makes them besides scat.
