Most suspensions don't work because the mounting points are not "straight & square" with each other and the chassis centerline.
Tires, especially 15", are a big fudge factor compensating in all directions. Keep your roll centers reasonable (if you want to at the same distance to the front and rear center of gravity), but don't go overboard with it. Control your bump steer (front and rear, though some in the rear can be beneficial). The highly (in-house) advertised anti-squat from Lamborghini is "an old hat" seen at the 427 chassis and mostly likely in a few from the 40s as well.. Keep your camber change in roll reasonble. 17" are more sensible than 15". I used our Isuzu KB250 Pick-Up front upright with 427-like control arms in the front. The steering arms are almost perfect. I make new hubs for 5-pin knock-offs. I cast the rear 427 upright which I use with Granada bearings and spindle (connected to 427 control arms). Drilled new holes for 5-pin Trigos. My aim is originality, but like you not down to the last hose clamp. It's just not feasible in SA, unless your name is Hi-Tech Automotive and have a Shelby contract in your pocket :-) |
