Daytona body on 427 chassis

Good day!

I am halfway through the original style 427 chassis, will tackle suspension soon and wonder if a Daytona body would fit over a FE engine and if it has a 90" wheelbase?

Who has a Daytona body? Fibre is fine, I can't afford aluminium.

Dom

I make Daytona coupe bodies, I have a frame settup for an FE 427 and the carb and air cleaner fit under the hood with no problems, I'll try to find you a link to some pictures

90"?

Thanks, what is the wheelbase?

90" wheelbase

If your going to do an FE version, consider adding 3" to the wheelbase/frame, add 3" to the rear of front clip & front of sill's, plus a larger carb cover/scoop....

I also have the 93" wheelbase body, and the FE fits under the hood no problem

The chassis is now 90", seems I thought a bit late about the Daytona shape?
Let me do a bit more research... And consider a longer chassis for the next project.

How much is the one to fit the 90" chassis? Is it doable, I am reading "add 3in" front and rear?

mr bruce 02-13-2011 11:02 AM

I have 2 coupe bodys, a 90" wheelbase and the 93" wheelbase, they are similar, but different, the extra 3" on the longer one wasn't just stuck in, the cockpit is a little larger, the flip front end is a little longer. Everthing was done proportional , there are pictures floating around the forum of the 93' wheelbase body, but I can't locate them, you'll have to dig around a bit.

Ok, let me get more parts from the drivetrain, position all (also suspension) and I will pm you how I intend to proceed. That will take a while. Those parts are not widely available in South Africa.

Maybe I come across a Fiat 8V Supersonic body to copy the Willment Ghia Cobra? (Rather unlikely..)

i got an original style 427 frame in storage, give me a month or so to get some other work out of the way, and i'll drop a 90" wheelbase body on it so you can see how everything fits

Daytona on a 427 Chassis

Mr. Bruce, I would definately be interested in the 90" wheelbase Daytona body on a 427 chassis. How close to origional shape/ dimension is the 90" body? Thanks Phil

mr bruce 02-14-2011 04:12 PM

how close?, check out the pictures in the link, you be the judge.
