Ah, a reanimated thread ;-)

427sharpe
"I wanted to ask him why the 427 used a welded on rear subframe as opposed to a full length frame rail"

I see three reasons: it could be a sacrificial crash box, the LCA needed more length than the extended main rails would allow for (most likely reason), or simply the designer had one length of tubing in mind per car (6meters, 18ft)

Yes, the rear suspension steers in roll (cornering) and changes toe in bump/droop.
I believe Morris designed that out of his car, relying entirely on new generation slicks for traction (and thus eliminating the tendency of the suspension to bind).

If I ever build another chassis, I would change the rear to look like a 289 suspension or SPF.

Hi Dominik,
I'd firmly support option #2. Even with the standard 22-24'
length's of tubing, there would be enough material to go all
the way back. That's the way Alfy65 did his frame. Looks
awesome too!

Mike.

You guys know the deal already if the 4" tube went all the way back it would be right in the way of the rear lower inner mount. They could have done some clever hot rod smoothing with a recess that housed it in the tubes but they were keeping it simple.

Hi Nick!

They could have :-)

Mike,
don't forget to add the crossmembers.

Of course, AC never planned to build one chassis at the time, and I forgot how it adds up after notching the crossmembers.

I figure the crash-box and LCA length is the reason.

Hi!
I see this is an old thread, but any chance the 289 plans are still available and can be shared? Would be very much appreciated!

Best regards Peter

Hi!
I generously got a partial set of drawings from Mark and then he would find the remaining part from an old computer. However, now it seems as my mails are not getting through, or at least no response. Anyone who have drawings and is willing to share one way or the other?

Regards Peter
