Mustang 5.0 donor disassembly help

I am about to disable my mustang; Any tips? Best order to remove things?

Since this is in the scratch builders' forum, which parts are you planning on using on your build? What style of chassis are you planning on building? That might help to answer your questions.

Of course, the easiest thing to do is to remove the engine and tranny first, marking all the wires as you go.

Agree 1000% about marking every wire. Do not cut any wire.

Take a lot of pictures when disassembling ... they will help later. Get a spiral bound notebook and take notes about how things are routed, assembled, etc.

Every small part should be put in a clear bag and write down where the part goes using indelible ink on the bag. That includes all bolts, nuts and associated hardware. Wire a paper tag on all big stuff that's too big for a bag. Right down description on the tag.

Do not throw anything away until the Cobra is finished.

Depending on your skill level a Chiltons manual would be useful along with the above suggestion. Also a good penetrating oil such as KROIL and a torch (smoke wrench) would be handy, just be careful with the heat as too much can spoil needed parts.

When I did my FFR, I carefully removed what ever body parts that were still good and set them aside. Made the front end and engine removal easier. I also made little dollies that I could roll the thing around on once the rear and front suspension were out. I was amazed at how much I sold off the donor- I paid $1000 for it, parted out $1600 worth of stuff and kept the engine, trans, fuel tank, pedal box, wiring harness, etc.

I wouldn't do it that way again however. I just kept deciding that I didn't want old stuff on my car and replaced most of it.

I want to save money on my first build, but I will not reuse things like break pads or my 16 year old wireing. I want to save money, but not also remain practical as possable.
