Great video Jeff! It's unfortunate with the resources that Bruce Myer has ($) and the historical significance of CSX2001 that it was not restored as per the way it was originally delivered by Ed Hugus to his good friend Dr Milo. Not only was 2001 the first Cobra delivered to a customer it was also the first Cobra prepared for competition by the manufacturer as Dr Milo was an avid racer and bought it to race. I truly hope that when the car was converted from "worm and sector" steering to "rack and pinion" that the frame stantion (with Von number) was not removed?! It's a nice car but I believe that an injustice was done given what the car stands for. If you google CSX2001 I believe you can find home videos that were taken when the Cobra was first delivered. Bruce should have started with a later rack car to build his version of what a "Cobra" represents to him, nice job though

The Winter 2009 edition of "The Shelby American" magazine featured a great article on CSX2001. I believe non-members can download this article for free here: http://saac.memberlodge.com/resource...09-csx2001.pdf.
And to answer my own question above, I googled around and found that CSX2001 was featured in episode 6 of Discovery HD's "World's Most Expensive Cars" program and was first aired in Feb 2010. This program does not seem to be available on DVD at this time. |
I agree John, always a fan of the original spec in a restoration however most of these cars were changed so many times original is far from their current state. I remember Jack Launtz used to say that CSX3020 has had numerous changes as it was a race car and accidents happen requiring the upgrades. Well CSX2001 is also a race car and that same thing holds true, changes over the years are part of its history. That sorta kinda makes it ok? Right? :confused: :LOL:

Nope, not really.............you generally wouldn't see any of the original Shelby team cars or another (make model or brand) significant race car restored into something it never was just because of the historical and monetary value of the vehicle. Yes people may restore a vehicle as per a certain time frame of the vehicle life (livery, driver, team, etc) but generally if the vehicle has any historical significance it is not altered into something it never was, JMO.

I understand that it had been converted to rack and pinion early in it's life and that because of this it may be acceptable, definitely a better steering & handling vehicle. The restoration as good as it is still does not represent what the car was or it's past historical significance. Unfortunately there were very few early Cobras produced (let alone the first Cobra delivered to a customer) and far fewer today that maintain their originality. It's Bruce's Cobra, money and decision as to what he wants his Cobra to be, enough said by me. |
