What's a "PPI"?

RodKnock 02-17-2013 01:30 PM

Pre purchase inspection.

Got it.

When I read it, I thought, "I wouldn't want anyone to PPI on my 4000 series, in Florida or anywhere!" Your definition is better.

Do the eBay guys that do inspections do inspections outside if eBay or is that a violation of eBay policy. I know they send lots of photos, drive the vehicle and do checks on mechanical condition.

Nope. Sorry don't mess around with amateurs. See Dennis Olthoff will go look at it for you. You'll have to pay him for his time.

There are others in the southeast too.

It's 8 degrees and blowing here this morning, pick me!
See if Sal Manella aka Power Surge is still around in Florida. Anyone know?

That's really not as dumb as it sounds. If you're going to drop close to six figures on a toy, flying MM down for an overnight look-see is a very smart, and relatively cheap, move.

You may want to join the Shelby American Automoble Club (SAAC) and their forum, The Official SAAC Forum - Index. You can find members or marque inspectors in nearly every region of the country that will inspect the car for a fee of course.

That would be fair. It's freakin' cold in NH and MM would be an excellent choice too and probably he might give a break just to get out of NH now. :) And to be fair, there are others on the east coast that will do you well too. Just look around here some more.

Bottom line is the guys that inspect on ebay have no clue about Cobras or anything else except 1990 Chevy's. Get someone who knows a Cobra.

Shelby CSX cars are good sound Cobras and it won't disappoint you. You do need to know the history and any of the guys mentioned here will be able to spot if major repairs have been done. But even if so, don't necessarily let that necessarily scare you. Almost all of the originals were wrecked during their racing days. On Sunday they looked horrible and by the next Friday they looked new. It all depends on who did the work. There are a few that are renowned for their work. CARFAX don't work on Cobras, so be sure to get "the rest of the story".

Good luck with your purchase and I hope you will drive the snot out of it. I put almost 5000 miles on mine by myself (since my wife wouldn't go in it). I love my GT, but the cobra was exhilarating!

Thanks for the info, i will look at SAAC forum.
And also looking forward to close the deal and get the car over to Belgium.

If it were me, and I was spending a lot of money, then I would definitely talk to someone over at the SAAC Forum. They have a Florida and/or SouthEast Region experts who can easily assist you with inspecting a CSX4000.

And join SAAC by paying a membership fee and you get a really nice annual book that they send you too.

mickmate 02-19-2013 05:05 PM

SAACForum is great but it's dedicated to the old clunkers, the cars not the guys on there ;-)
This is the only place on the web I know of that has a dedicated 4000 section.

Based on historical comments I would focus equally on the power train install. You want to know who did it and when, and who the supplier of the block, clutch system, and tranny.
