Not bad, great buy!

Solely out of curiosity, if a flood damaged CSX4XXX was restored to like new condition but with a rebuilt title, how much might that affect its market value. No facts here, just opinions.

Of all the flood cars, the Cobra may be among the easiest to refurb.

The amount of work on the engine is unknown until its torn down. If it's a SBF it might be better to just replace it.

Certainly all wiring harness will have to be replaced. There isn't a single waterproof connector on the car. Same for all chassis attached parts like fuse blocks.

Brakes, wheel hubs need to be replaced/refurbed.

Interior including dash is toast as is probably everything behind the dash.

By the time you're done you're replacing/repairing/refurbing everything mechanical. Taking it down to chassis tubes.

And then you're left with tubes that have had water in them, probably sediment.

Of all the things the fiberglass is probably the most immune to water and will wash and clean up debris pretty easily. Observe the paint actually looks in pretty good condition.

And after all that cost, the stigma of a salvage title car is still attached which really hurts sale and subsequent resale.

I can't imagine this being cost effective.

Did it go to Europe or is the right column info about EU an estimate only?

I think it went to Savannah, GA judging from the information block bottom right corner, and then overseas?

Also that site appears to be an overseas shipper.

This is the auction site.

I would think its a basically a roller w/o any parts.
Lots of parts can be used again, with bad title it will not carry the value it once had.
Guessing about 60% of its pre-dip value.
That is based on KMS cars and a previous alloy 4000 I know of.
Still a great deal...

Since it's a continuation car, it's just another kit car. Not rare or difficult to find. Doesn't look like it had anything rare or hard to get on it - like an aluminum FE motor. The only thing on it that had any real value is the name, Shelby.

As Tony said, there's not much that's salvageable.

But, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. :)

With aluminum body it’s worth more than they paid

Well in case you forgot, a flood damaged CSX4xxx has been restored before:

You could not buy a frame and body for the sell price. A steal for sure!
Strip it, make a nice alloy car.

I don't think we know what it sold for. As I read it (and play with numbers) the right column is a CALCULATOR not a final sell price...

The link above is an intermediary. The actual auction was at COPART and the sale price is not disclosed.

Neither place says it if it is aluminum or fiberglass...

But we've been over this before. Once the tubes have been filled with salt water they are a disaster waiting to happen...

feadam 01-24-2023 06:19 PM

It’s in registry as aluminum

Why are the internal tubes not treated? Back in the 1920s, airplane manufacturers, started using linseed oil to prevent corrosion. It worked pretty good, I have seen it through the years. Seems like there should be a better solution? Cheers, Dennis
