Autosport.com - Nostalgia Forum
I stumbled across a pretty cool website called Autosport.com today. The Nostalgia section is a treasure trove of racing history and pictures. I noticed that drivers, crew, and mechanics from the era often weigh and provide background, comments, and pictures.
Warning, the little hand on the clock will start spinning fast when you get into some of the threads. :D http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showforum=10 Here's a link to a thread that has a picture of Bob Olthoff in a McLaren. http://forums.autosport.com/index.ph...ic=77742&st=40 |
Doug,
Great site! I took a look and right off the bat found a short video on Formula 5000 cars .... one of my favorites! Reminded me of the F5000 race in Long Beach in '75 that was to warm up to the F1 race in '76 ... great cars! Thanks ... I think, looks like a real time sink :D |
I've been poking around there for a couple of years - great stuff, and I still have not had time to read all the threads! I got stuck on one that was all about Lotus 19s and spent almost 2 weeks at that site and others researching the buggers! Well worth the trip, but do not attempt it if you only have a few minutes to spare, or if you need to get to bed before the sun comes up.

Tim,
I went to all of the Long Beach events in the early days (F5000, F1, CART). The first year they had F1, a buddy of mine and I were walking around and this guy (looked like one of the F1 crew members) offered us full access passes for something like $25. He told us to "just look like you know what you're doing and flash your badge when you walk by security." It was great, we had full access to pit row. We spent few minutes talking to Jody Scheckter and he signed a book that I had. It was a lot of fun. |
