Quail Lodge Shelby tribute, how special were the cars?

I saw some pictures on some website (forgot where) , I guess the most special
was the first Cobra ever made, and the GT40 targa,
maybe an R-model Shelby but what made the other cars very special among all Shelby American cars? For instance the silver 427 Cobra. Was that a full comp or S/C? You can tell I never went to this show because now it costs $400 or more for a ticket but I want to know what I missed, what made those cars qualify to be invited to what has been since its inception a foreign car event

Also in an article I read it is "Bruce McCaw's Quail event" I wonder is he the founder and the one who runs the whole event? I remember his name as either the founder or co-founder of a company called McCaw Cellular that sold a few years ago for billions, and to celebrate he went out and bought nearly 100 Ferraris. (apparently, they're cheaper by the dozen...)
