I saw the first Cobra for customers in the rain the other day

Yup, all you guys that baby your Cobras, I saw CSX2001, the first Cobra sold to customers, being driven in a drizzle the other day.
It was to the Art Center College of Design concours. It always used to be in August and hotter than hell so they moved it to October, and it pours. Bruce Meyer the owner of the car roared into the tent they had for a few of the cars and gave a short intro to the car, saying that it was one of a dozen
early Cobras delivered to Ed Hugus in Penn. because Shelby had ordered the cars but didn't have the money to pay for them. I had never heard that dozen figure before, Ed himself told me the first three, but anyhow I am sure Meyer has done lots of research. The car is black. It was raced in Europe with a non factory hardtop but he and McCluskey restored it without the hardtop.

Is that Bruce Meyer of Meyers Manx fame?

The CSX2001 was highlighted on Discovery Channel's show World's Most Expensive Rides a few months back. I wasn't able to find the episode on their website or on Youtube though. It showned the owner (real estate mogul if I remember correctly) driving it around Beverly Hills as if it were a daily driver. The show estimated it at 5-6 million. It showed footage of him finding it in Europe then restoring it.

Great episode if you can find it, I'd post it myself if I could find a way to get it off my DVR.

Historybuff,
I've seen CSX2001 up close and personal and it was gorgeous! Looks like a time machine. And frankly, I'm glad the hardtop wasn't redone.
Bruce may not baby the car like most of baby our replicas (plus, he's pretty wealthy), but I don't think he was looking for a ride in the rain, either.

I think Bruce Meyer (CSX2001) seems too young to be the dune buggy guy.

Bruce MeyerS of Manx fame is spelled with an 's' at the end. At least that's what my dune buggy surfer friend said.
