Mark Donohue in a Shelby

I heard that he once owned
a Shelby GT350
I was wondering why he
wasn't scooped up by Shelby
because then he would have gotten
engineering advice for free. In the picture
I saw of his car, seemed to have more
radiused wheel wells. Maybe Mark was
modifiying the car and Shelby didn't want drivers that would deviate from stock (though Ken Miles in his small block Cobra had lots of non stock devices installed). Any opinions? Because it could have changed Trans Am
if Donohue would've been driving for Shelby instead of Penske.
