Daytona Quiz: Missed it by that much!
You guys have probably seen this photo before, but I haven't so - -
Who was driving? Where did this happen? What was the destination? Note the guy with the FORKLIFT. Hey that car could be worth $4,000,000! http://home.earthlink.net/~stan999/DAYTONA-RAMP.jpg Stan **) **) **) **) Club Counterfeit "If you're gonna treat an original like that, you should be driving a Counterfeit!" |
Allen Grant, loading the cars up for one of the European races. A source of terrific embarrassment for one of the team drivers. I think it may have been the damage to this car that caused the experimental, 390-powered Coupe--which was being built on a lengthened chassis at Carrozzeria Gransport in Italy--to be returned to "stock" specification--

A little more to the left ... NO, YOU'RE OTHER LEFT!
It was Allen Grant. Do you think he got a running start?
According to my information, the team was NOT heading for Europe. What race was it? Stan **) **) **) **) Club Counterfeit |
Allen Grant was not one of the class favorites among his peers. If memory serves, he sort of commandeered the job to unload the Coupe from one of the 'lowly' SAI workers, wanting to make sure the job was done correctly............
|
I think the trailer mishap took place outside the Venice, Cal. facility, if memory serves......

Cal's Right
According to the information I have, the car was being loaded onto the truck at Venice.
Where were they going? Stan **) **) **) **) Club Counterfeit "If a replica Daytona is good enough for Carroll, it's good enough for me!" |
According to Pete Brock - Daytona '65
Pg 351 "Daytona Cobra Coupes" Dave Lowell |
Daytona 1965 it was.
I'd like to reveal my source, but it's a book I bought some fifteen years ago and forgot about.
Maybe it will be good for a few more trivia questions. Stan **) **) **) **) Club Counterfeit |
