How long was the "season"?

Here's a question for Cal and/or Bob E.-
Recently spent some time reading the section of books on Shelby's racing years.
Most talk about the "'64 season" or the "65 season"
In reading about the 427 Comp cars, they missed qualification for the '65 season by not having built 100 cars by April '65...

so... Just what was the span of the "Seasons"? ..FIA? ..SCCA?
What date did they start and what date did they end?
...was it the calendar year? ...or something shorter?

Thanks, guys....couldn't find this info anywhere.

1964:
First endurance race was usually the Daytona Continental, followed by the first USRRC race in Agusta in March. There were nine USRRC races in '64 ending at Road America in September. There were only eight USRRC races in '65.

I'll fill in the blanks after dinner. :)

Kent, Watkins Glen, and Mid-Ohio were three of the USRRC races that I can think of.

There were a number of SCCA races held throughout the country: Elkhart Lake, Laguna Seca, Bridge Hampton, Lynndale Farms, Mosport, Mid-Ohio, and Cumberland are a few that come to mind

Typically, prior to '64, the driver with the most points would be crowned the SCCA National Champion. But in '64 the top five points winners would be pitted against one another in the ARRC run off, and the winner of that would then be deemed the National Champion.

USRRC races started, as Bob mentioned, with Augusta (Daytona is actually a FIA event as was Sebring but I think they were simultaneous events). From there it was Pensacola, Riverside, Laguna Seca, Kent, Watkins Glen, Greenwood, Meadowdale, Mid-Ohio, Elkhart Lake, ARRC (finals) at Riverside. This was the '64 season

The FIA events for '64 were: Daytona, Sebring, Targa Florio, Spa, Nurburgring, Lemans, Rheims, Freiburg, Sierra Montana, Goodwood, Tour de France and Bridgehampton.

In '65, the FIA schedule was: Daytona, Sebring, Monza, Spa, Oulton Park, Nurburgring, Le Mans, Rossfeld, Rheims, Coppa Di Enna, Bridgehampton.

Just ran across this thread

Talk about unlikely. I would never have believed there used to be a USRRC race held in Augusta, Ga. Talking the other day with my insurance agent and he said he remembered watching the Cobras race at the road course in Augusta. It only was held those two years. Sorry I missed it but I wasn't born yet. Unfortunately the only thing we have now is a nearly out of business dirt track.
