Dragonsnake question
Has anybody got any old pictures of the dragonsnakes in action , other than the Dave Friedman photos.I have tried the search engine but the pictures did not show, there was just a red x in the box where a picture should be.

I have some pics of the various DSnakes. They are not in action, so to speak, but show some of them at various drag events. Do a search on CC, as this was a big topic some time ago. I think I listed, for example, all the DSnake by CSX number.

A search-word of Dragonsnake shows a bunch of good threads from 6-7/2001. Here's the main one. Unfortunately, many of the images at that time were pre-Gallery, so they won't display. The posts that had attachments still show the images. |

Computerworks, i found the pictures of the costilow and larson Dragonsnake, that has got to be one of the most coolest looking cobras ever.

Although I have no pics currently, we did meet JJ Rodman of Penn. at the Zippo SVRA Vintage races at Watkins Glen last weekend. He is the current owner of one of the DragonSnakes, CSX2472. This car was not completed until 1965 when Ed Hugas ordered a Stage II Dragon Snake. The car was originally Bright Blue and is currenly British Racing Green. It has 18,500 original miles. JJ had owned it, sold it and repurchased it w/o knowing it was an original Dragon Snake. I'll try to get some pics somewhere. |
It is my understanding the CSX2000 series cars had a live solid axle. IRS not being introduced until,,,,,1965?...with the 427's?

They're all independent suspension. The difference is the 289 cars had transverse leaf spring suspension instead of coil over....which came with the 427 cars. Those "little" Salisbury rear ends were and are plenty tough. They're basically the same as a Dana/Spicer 44. 8 3/4" ring gear and the "Locker" is 4 pinion. Short of some really sticky 12" wide slicks and dropping the clutch at 8 grand, they don't break easily. The 4 wheel drive boys have been beating heck out of them for nearly 50 years. |

FOR A MOMENT I THOUGHT THE OWNER OF THE DRAGONSNAKE CSX2472 WAS WRONG AS RICH MASON OF CSX2196 FAME( ALA FLIP TOP) HAS DRAGONSNAKE CSX2427. SAME #'S DIFFERENT ORDER!!! CAL HAS BEEN HELPING HIM GET THE WEBERS FINE TUNED. I'VE DRIVEN THIS CAR (JUST SENT CAL AND SNAKEYES SOME PICTURES). WHEN IT HAD 456'S IN THE REAR END IT WAS ALMOST HARD TO HOOK UP. IT'S NOW BEING USED FOR VINTAGE ROAD RACING. THE OLD PICTURES I HAVE SEEN ARE REALY NEAT AS IT WAS TOWED TO THE TRACK WITH A YELLOW THUNDERBIRD, WITH MATCHING OPEN TRAILER. THE CAR WAS A MEDIUM YELLOW, SHORT HURST SHIFTER, AND STAGE II. TURNED IN THE LOW 11'S WHICH BACK THEN WAS REALLY SOMETHING. TERRY |
Something funny about the rear axle thing. I read an archived article about a 1962 Cobra road test done IN 1962 (magazine is now defunct). A picture shot down low to the ground showed the car with a "live" axle. The third member was clearly visible and I could have SWORN I saw standard leaf springs!
1. The magazine screwed up (that happens you know, pic of one thing identified as another)! 2. Some of the VERY early cars had a live axle and twin springs? 3. Did ANY of the AC Bristols come with leaf springs (PLURAL) and a live axle? Or were they too with a single transverse spring and IRS? Didn't know the Salisbury was a Dana like unit. Oh yeah, they don't get any tougher than that! I always wondered HOW those "British" rear ends could handle all the torque! Ernie Ron, Love your avatar, ha ha! |
IN REVIEWING THE OLD POST CAL TALKED ABOUT THE 427 DRAGON SNAKE. AN INTERESTING NOTE, THE OWNER OF THAT CAR ALSO HAD CSX2427 IN HIS COLLECTION ALONG WITH CSX3002. MY FRIEND RICH HAD SOMETHING HE WANTED (A GULF CORVETTE) AND THATS HOW HE ENDED UP WITH 2427. WAS SURPRISED THAT A PERSON WOULD "SPLIT" UP A "MATCHING SET!!

Please,please, please can you upload a picture of the Thunderbird towing the Dragonsnake. By the way there is a good picture of the Ed Hedrick Dragonsnake at speed at the website Thecarsource.com then go in the cobra gallery it will be under the racing cobra roadsters section. |
