Cobra Racers testing Stingrays

Hi, i,ve just watched a programme on a channel over here called Motors TV. The Muscle Car Story featured Corvette Stingrays being driven hard by Dave Macdonald and Dick Thompson who both went on to race Cobras of course. This was fascinating mainly for seeing Dave Macdonald belting round a private circuit and then chatting to i think Bill Mitchell.
Anybody know anything about this ? Did DM do testing for Chevrolet before going on to work for Shelby or do you think this was just a PR exercise?

Paul:

My password is messed up and is under an old moniker. MacDonald was a veteran Corvette driver on the west coast long before the Cobra story developed, as was Dick Thompson.

At the onset of the Cobra program, SAI was using Corvette Harrison built radiators for the CSX 2000 cars. GM got wise to this when the units ended up being ordered in large quantities from west coast Chevy dealers. At that point, MacDonald had moved over to the Ford camp, but was so well liked by the Chevy dealers, that he was able to procure the radiators from GM for SAI, despite the fact that the dealers were, in fact, selling product to the competition. That is a lot of goodwill.

Mac also drove a Max Balchowsky framed '61 Corvette. I think the piece you have shows Mac and Thompson at the GM proving ground taking a couple of new Sting Rays around the track.
