Shelby GR-1

I was at the L.A. Auto Show yesterday and saw the GR-1. It was a nice looking car, but I prefer the Ford GT that was sitting next to it. I talked to the Ford rep who said that Ford built the GR-1 and when Carroll Shelby saw that prototype, he told them to chuck the Ford Shelby Cobra concept. The rep said it was the likely replacement for the Ford GT, but it was not definitive that it would be built.

BTW - The Ford Shelby Cobra was not at the L.A. Auto Show - although local advertising stated it would be displayed.

What I heard is the new Cobra project was canceled a few months back (it was in one of the recent car mags too), however the GR-1 would continue onward, and Ford was pontentially considering some other other future type V10 powered supercar in addition to the current production Ford GT and GR-1.

This made me think if Daimler/Chrysler is doing the ME-4/12 we saw last year at Laguna, maybe Ford was stepping up as well to do something on that type of level. All hearsay, but that is what tid bit of information I heard.

I would love to see Ford build an outrageous supercar and actually produce it in available quantity. :)

I understand that Diamler/Chrysler is giving up the on the ME 412 supercar and has a new concept car Firepower built on the viper chasis with a Hemi. the car has the look of the GR-1 but may be priced closer to a corvette from what I've read.

I saw the Ford Shelby Cobra concept in Las Vegas last Friday. It was at one of Sony's car audio booths at the Consumer Electronics Show with a big honking stereo/speaker set-up. With those mods, it looks like it would fit right into the Too Fast & Furious crowd.;)
