Csx 3058
Does anyone know much about CSX 3058 and its whereabouts?
|
Probably sitting in someones garage considering those cars are not allowed to be registered.
|
Ah, one of the infamous 'completition series' cars?
You don't hear much detail about them and what you do hear seems to be more rumor than fact. For instance, only one or two actually sold for the asking price of around $500K, or so "rumor has it"... :D I wonder what the true average selling price was? And WHERE are these cars? |

Don't know if it has finally changed hands, but it has been in Japan. I have record of listings: 6/2003, 11/2004, 5/2005, 6/2005, 9/2005...:3DSMILE: A few brokers have it listed... From a recent listing: "...1965 Cobra 427 (CSX3058) First & only owner is Mr. Bing Miamoto President of Sony Electronics. Title is still in Carroll Shelby's name. Cobra is in Japan and we can assist to ship it anywhere in the world. Don't miss this one, a very important piece of Cobra history. Mentioned in all the Cobra books and Shelby registry. This Cobra is in "As New" condition, with only delivery miles, kept in the private collection of Mr. Miamoto." It's a very nice looking car... http://www.tenmagallop.co.jp/img1200.jpg |
Current asking price was around $250K or so, I think. Ron isn't this one of the cars that DID sell for close to the original asking price of $500K?
|
If you mean back when they were new...yes, this may have gone for "sticker"
But, recently...I remember the 'real' 3060 changing hands, but not this one. |
Thanks for that.
A pal has let me know it is up for sale again at £175K asking and that a 'Swiss' seller has it on offer. Since the seller will not ID himself easily, a buyer ought to be at least more cautious than the original buyer. A simple call to AC prior to purchase would have revealed all in the day. But, perhaps the buyer certainly did know the truth in some fashion? Not sure where the car is though and we cannot seem to find it for sure. i don't think that is a terrible price, though high, given the interesting history and ownership. Perhaps it can be registered in some other state than CA? Agreed that CA is out of the question. Importation might also be felonious since it clearly was sold with motor installed (against USFED law, unless we are seriously misinformed, not for the first time.) While it is recorded as a 1965, it certainly isn't true. Further, let's hope CS has signed that title sufficient to make it 'hot', transferable to the bearer. So there are likely two of his signatures, one on the front and one endorsement on the back, unless in CA the front sig is enough to release all interest. What isn't clear at all on the document is who represented that 3058 was a 1965. There must have been a MSO or something given to CA to allow them to create a title like this. Has anyone ever seen a copy of such an MSO/MCO/COA? i would presume it is one of the McClusky cars and perhaps did sell at list, but the seller being so tricky, 'list' may have only been 350 to 400 or so. The rest might be 'air'. Puffery. Image. Up-smack. Given the sourcing, i am certain it is of considerable quality and historical merit. Perhaps it could be imported for shows and stuff? Interesting to consider. But, of course, it is not the only CSX 3058 anyway, is it? Did i just blink? |
