New magazine on SHELBY on the newsstands now

I paid I think under $7 for it at the regular bookstore (can't remember it it was Borders or Barnes & Noble). I think you will get your money back at some swap meet down the road. Admittedly, it's mostly the new '07 and '08 Shelby Mustangs featured throughout but it has at least three historical articles including a great one about the origin of the Terlingua Racing team logo. The magazine, which has lots of color, was edited by professional writers like Donald Farr who I venture to guess had their pick of the Petersen Publishing archives as far as art. I can't figure out if it's a quarterly but it is definitely not a monthly because it has a Keep-on-Sale notice extending several months. There are lots of ads in it for the new Team Shelby club so I guess this is the club magazine in effect though I can't remember if the list of items provided by the club promises any magazine. Of course the club will have a website.

If you have any lingering doubts why Shelby found it necessary to fund a new club ,known as Team Shelby, these will be dispelled by the new magazine which promotes the cars Shelby and Ford are making now. My theory is that Shelby and Ford wanted to promote the cars they are making now and had to have a publication that would put those cars up front, ahead of the historical stuff. I like the illuminating news about the new models but just hope each and every issue will continue to have a historical component as well as there are still plenty of good stories to be unearthed ....

I picked one up at a local grocery store for reading during a trip. You sure don't see any replica ads in that one.

On the binding side, it says "Shelby 2007 Annual". And although the website is not clear if you get the magazine when you join the club, you do get it.

Regarding " Shelby ", Amy clarified on Reply # 311:

" we would like to do them with some regularity. We will be doing newletters as well. The only way to get with subscription is thru membership. If there are more they will come this way. The deal with the publishing house is they sell what we dont take. "

It was a one off but I think as club members join they will ask for another

I talked to one of the editors who told me it was just a one-off
but if lots of people join Team Shelby they will say "where's the magazine" and maybe another will be done. I think it is a good mix of the new cars and the old original Shelby cars. As owners of new Shelbys modify them there could be justification to do a new magazine from a business standpoint because then they can tout what's been done to the new generation cars, and sell parts so owners out there in the hinterlands can do the same thing.
The most valuable part of the original Shelby club magazine to my mind is the interviews that they did with original race drivers, managers, Cobra & Shelby builders. Now that there's a new generation of Shelbys and Cobras being built, maybe the factory will allow various personalities to be similarly interviewed.

Bougth mine on e-bay, there not exactly easy to find in Hawaii you know...

TerrysSPF 11-27-2007 07:39 PM

Ernie: Did you really pay $31 for a copy on ebay? Jeeeez.........I would have shipped you one for less than that!
I can't believe they're selling on ebay already! My local grocery store still had several copies on the shelf a couple days ago. I may just go in and buy the rest, and save them for ebay at a later date.:3DSMILE:

Excaliber 11-27-2007 07:59 PM

Nah I didn't really pay $31, it was $31.60 with shipping! I figured what the heck, EASY way to buy one, no hassle. I put in a max bid of 26.99 thinking there was no way it would actually go that high, but I'd pay that, plus shipping, just to keep it easy. Some turkey runs it up at the last minute, only two of us bid.

Might not be a bad idea to buy up a few, not sure it's worth the hassle of e-bay for a few bucks though, but maybe, just maybe, you could find another fool like me! I know theres at least ONE other guy out there willing to pay $25! :D

Heres the link:

Maybe Egghead (the other bidder) is still looking for one! Go get 'em...

And I felt ripped to have spent $6.27? at walmart, one expensive mag:mad:

Excaliber 11-27-2007 09:05 PM

Uh oh, I haven't got it yet, man it better be REALLY good. OH, I know, Xmas gift after I finish reading it, priceless! :D

Power Surge 11-27-2007 09:27 PM

I would have sent you one too Ernie, should have just asked. :)

I like the magazine, even thought it doesn't really cater to Cobra's that much, it does actually touch on all areas of Shelbyness, so I think it's a great magazine for someone interested in Shelby to read.

And I guess Historybuff doesn't read his own threads, because the magazine topic was discussed in length in the other big thread he started  .

Excaliber 11-27-2007 10:46 PM

I sure appreciate the offers guys, thanks a lot. I just didn't want to bother anyone, and it's not like it cost 'that much'. Maybe next time I WILL ask for help! Good friends around these parts. :D

While the Shelby magazine indicates " Shelby 2007 Annual ", above the UPC Code on the lower left corner of the cover it states " Display Until Feb 5, 2008 ". Might be implied there will be another edition, otherwise why use a display until date ?

The Publishers information on Page 9 does not have any subscription information.

If they don't have an expiration date like that, they might get pulled off the shelf after a month by the person who stocks the shelves. That gives them more time to sell if they are not moving to well.

Maybe I should pick up a few extra copies and try to sell them on eBay... :D

Historybuff 11-28-2007 01:45 PM

Could be a collector's item, at $6 or $7 it's worth a try to stock a few as trading material. After all it was supported by Shelby's current companies and thus is a genuine artifact.
I know some of these special editions are worth much more in time, like the CAR LIFE Mustang issue issued around 1966. Sometimes special editions have artwork that isn't featured anywhere else--say cutaway drawings paid for by the automaker benefitting from the publicity. There is a British magazine, Autocar, that had a multi page spread on the Ford GT Concept of 2002 using pictures I didn't see anywhere else, so to me that's worth saving, as they must have scheduled their own photo session

Do ya think Carroll will charge me $200.00 to sign my copy???
