Black Hornet GT500 any prior references?

I was looking at a new Shelby site today and I couldn't help but notice that it had a big ad for the Black Hornet, a car that Shelby says he has been hiding for 40 years, a notchback similar to the Green Hornet prototype. I was wondering if anybody remembers any previous magazine articles in the past few decades on this black car.
Here's the ad:

No, it doesn't have a history. The Children's Foundation is apparently misinformed about the car.

The car was built 5 years ago as a restomod by Barry Smith.

It says so in the Restoration Hardware piece on the car.

No history...it's a cloner.

Quote:

...To commemorate this groundbreaking (the Green Hornet) Shelby, Barry Smith, owner of Legendary G.T., built a continuation Shelby EXP500 under license from Carroll Shelby Licensing using an original 1968 Ford Mustang. Painted "Stetson Black" in honor of the hat worn by the lanky Texan, the EXP500 CSS "Black Hornet" is identical to the Green Hornet just after it received disc brakes but prior to the Colonic EFI or independent rear suspension. Since 2003, the car has been owned by Mr. Shelby. The EXP500 CSS is a car so true to a specific moment in time, it's as if a time capsule was opened to celebrate American ingenuity at its best. It is truly the one, the only, the legendary EXP500 CSS "Black Hornet."

Little correction... The Children's Foundation didn't make the misstatement...

...it was made by Carroll Shelby Merchandising, a catalog company that is not part of SA or the Foundation.

Auction for this car is currently underway on eBay. They have a bidder at the opening bid of $100,000.00. Pre-approved bidders only, and 100% of proceeds go to the Children's Fund.

A tribute car...but like magic it is part of the Worlwide registry.

From the eBay ad:

"Created under the direction of racing legend Carroll Shelby, the Shelby EXP500CSS "Black Hornet" pays tribute to its chrome and green prototype, the Shelby Green Hornet, and is the only approved reproduction.

- Since 2003, the car has been owned by Mr. Shelby.
- Official vehicle in the Shelby Worldwide Registry."

PT Barnum would be proud.
