Hood stop

I am looking for some good ideas on how to stop the hood from opening to far and damaging the paint !

jhaynie 04-03-2003 12:05 PM

Why are you opening the hood that far? Do you have a hood prop?

Rick Carnahan 04-03-2003 01:14 PM

I do plan on using the prop but I am just afraid that some time some place if I do nothing to stop it it will get into the paint if not by me, then by a well meaning frend, or a gust of wind ECT.
But if no one else has had such trouble I may just let it go I need input. Thanks

Mine has chromed sliders

No way it can go past a certain point, and it also has a ratcheting catch at the top to keep the hood propped. Not sure where you would get them for other cobra makes, but it seems the set I have could be adapted. Mine came from West Coast on my turnkey.. it was an option.

Rick Carnahan 04-03-2003 04:58 PM

Thats what I would like to have on mine, but I am not sure where
I would mount the slider on the lower end, there are no real inerfenders. Do you have some sort of bracket at the edge of the hood opening?

Rick
I used a prop rod that Finish Line sells. It is made of stainless and has a bracket I mounted to the frame, The bracket has a detent in it so it won't allow the hood to open to far. The bracket also stores the rod when the hood is closed.

My prop rod needs to be moved when the hood comes down, I think (hope) this would stop any gust from blowing it open

Saw an intersting hood support on eBay. Is this a Backdraft?

Rick,

I used one from a MBG. It has a tab you push down to release it so you can lower it. You can buy one from Moss Motors for about $25. Thay have a similar bracket for the trunk. This one you lift up the trunk to release.

Thanks for all the great info. Looks like the one from Finish line
will do just what I need thanks again to all of you for the help.

Has anyone used a gas assisted prop on their Shell Valley? You know, the ones that helps hatchbacks lift thier hatch.

Clois Harlan 06-04-2003 04:28 AM

Rick I have an extra that I once used on my hood, I got it from Enzo at Finish Line. You are welcome to mine if you want to try it. I will show you how and where to bolt it up to your hood. I am in Tulsa. Give me a call this weekend if you want to pick it up.
Actually, I live in Broken Arrow just east of Forest Ridge Golf Club.

Thank you Clois that is very nice of you. I just went with the stock SV unit so I could get on with the car but I would love to find a better way. I will be out of town till mid week next week but I will give you a ring then if that would be ok? Looking forward to meeting you.

Not a very good pic but you'll get the idea.

Gene,

Do you have two on there or just one? Can you get me the specs on those by chance? (close length, open length, force, brand and maybe where I can find them)

Thanks
Matt

6T5 Cbra 06-04-2003 06:47 PM

Matt,

There are 2 of them, one on each side of the hood. Here's the info right off the strut.

Eberhard Mfg Company
Cleveland, OH 44136-6697

Powerwise
8T00-120

That's all the info I can find.

The strut cylinder is about .750" Ø x 10.5" long. Total length expanded (as attached to hood) is around 20". It actually only compresses about 3" with the hood closed although it could compress much further if needed.

Here's some better pics
