water for coolant
Should you mix a certain percentage of water with antifreeze , run straight antifreeze or straight water. I live in a hot area.

Straight water is a better coolant than antifreeze, but....
It doesn't have any corrosion inhibitors, that is reason enough to add at least 25% antifreeze. (50/50 is the traditional mix) Wetting agent helps too, water wetter is the popular brand made by Redline. |

Not just Water.....
Use only distilled water. Forget any antifreeze Use Prestone water pump lubricant/rust inhibitor when system is empty then ad distilled water, that's it. Don't use Water Wetter, it is nothing more than a soap like substance that has been known to cause head gasket failure. This is not only my opinion but the advice of my engine builder that has over 30 years experience. |

I didn't get the high tech low down but, the guy in the shop that had the problem, worked for Jeff Gordon until the mid 90's. He was the one that got me off it. I would just drain it out and refill as above. A little pain in the A$$ but, a head gasket will be more of a pain. Drain the radiator with cap off. Then, un-hook your lower hose andn jack the rear as high as you can go. Don't forget to chock the front wheels. and you will be done. Not terrible

I just went to the evans website and was looking at all the tech specs, etc... Sounds like some really cool stuff! I noticed its specific heat capacity is significantly lower than water. Seems to me that this is the argument for not running a lot of antifreeze in the hot months and just running water - it cools better. So to me, that would indicate that the water cools better than the Evans NPG. But obviously, they're on to something. You say you think it's great stuff... Did you run a traditional Water/EG mix at any point? If so, what kinds of differences did you see? Thanks, JP |

AND, If you happen to take your car to the track, it's water only. Racetracks do not allow any glycol stuff. So, whats the point? |

I was introduced to this product by a guy that builds 427's and 428's for a living. He has it in all his cars. I never have ran a water mixture. I'm more impressed with the removal of any chance of rust. 427's are notorious for running hot, not with Evans. Chris- slithering |
I'd advise 50/50 AF/water. If you must go water only, use some sort of water pump lubricant/ rust inhibitor. Tracks don't allow AF because it lubricates the track when it drips or dumps. 50/50 also raises the boiling point of the coolant.
There is no magic fluid which will keep you from overheating, conservation of energy laws do not allow it. Bob |
