Width of floor space for seats
I know, Im a long way off from worrying about this, but I have been wondering about different options for seats. I like the look of the original rounded type seats, but i'm not sure my back could handle them. Id like to go with a more high-back seat with a little more support. I have also noticed that in many different manufacturers of Cobra kits, it seems the seats are mounted a little crooked- as if they could use just another 1/4" to 1/2" of room to mount them straight.
Can anyone either give me a measurement on the width of the floorpan where the seats mount, or maybe the width of the original type seats? Thanks for any help! Greg |
On my B&B I believe I have approx 24" to mount my seats on each side. The crooked appearance may be that many mfgs have to mount their steering wheel at somewhat of angle (cocked toward the center consol area) because of clearance issues with the heads and exhaust.

My chassis only has about 21" for the seats, but my wheel is straight. There are not alot of options when in this small of space. Good luck finding what you want.

This situation is another reason I like the Lone Star. Great seats, dropped floor pan, leg room and sitting position.

Hi Greg,
I would call Dana at Shell Valley and get the exact dimensions of the body you are going to use. Also, the new bodies all have a dropped floor pan. In the mean time I will measure mine and send you an e-mail tonight. The slight offset to the left is because of the stg column and pedals being offset. Unless you just have to have the turn signals on the column, take a look at the hot rod column from Speedway Motors. Look in my gallery to see one installed. Thanks Byron, and thanks for the info on the website and other seats. No, im not itchin' for the column with the turn signal levers- in fact, I plan to go with an aftermarket column (not sure which brand or type yet), and have accepted the fact the turn signals might be a switch or something on the dash, just to enable me to go with a more "authentic" styled steering wheel.
