What kind of pedal assy.and steering column?
Hello everyone. I was wondering what type / brand of steering column and pedal assemblies other SVC owners have went with. SVC would be fine, but the only thing is on the pedals, i'd like to have the original type pedals with the holes in them with "AC" on them...And on the steering column, the only thing I am not too fond of is the rubber "rag joint" type thing: id really like to have a solid steering shaft with the borgeson (sp) type joints from the dash to the steering rack.

I've got a combo of both. I've got stock SVC stuff up to where the lower shafts meets the upper shaft. From there, I used a splined Boregson coupler and a splined upper shaft. I used the stock SVC aluminum column, welded a Wilwood quick release adapter to the shaft and made a hub to cover it all up. You can't tell it's a quick release unless you look close and you'll see the release button sticking through the hub.
As for the pedals, I skipped the stock SVC stuff altogether and made a floor mounted pedal box. Master cylinders face rearward for room's sake. AC pedal pads are used. The steering is tight....no slop at all. |

Thanks Brent. Thats definately an idea on the steering column. I'd also like to see some pics of the pedal assembly, as I have no idea whatsoever what to go with. I have been looking at the Wilwood floor mount throttle pedal, but don't know about the brake and clutch- which I assume should be mounted the same as the throttle. But I am unsure about options of master cylinders, what kind of room i'll have, etc.. I wont have the body until the LCS in June, but I would like to have the pedals and column by then too. It's just hard to decide on something without having the body here.
Anyway, do you have any pics of the pedal assembly or the backward mounted master cylinder? Thanks, Greg |
Hi Greg. For the steering, I finally ended up with all Flaming River stuff. I used the fr1999ross30 column, and 3/4"-36 splined shafts and u joints. Also used the vibration resistant u joint at the column. It was pretty pricey, but well worth it for me. A couple of added bonuses is that the column worked very well with the Painless wiring harness that I used. And I have a functional horn button on the steering wheel.
For the pedals, I just used the SVC assembly for the brakes with Wilwood master cylinders. I did have to lenthen the pedal arm about 2" because I have the dropped footbox. It worked out good because it increased the leverage a little bit. After lots of trial and error, I ended up making my own floor mounted gas pedal assemby because it was just more comfortable for me for long drives. Sydney |
Greg, I'll see if I can get you some pics. I laid it out in AutoCAD and had it fabbed up for me. It's kinda/sorta modeled after the CSX/Kirkham pedal boxes.

Greg, as far as the AC pedals go I ordered mine from Finish Line and then cut the pad part off of the Shell Valley pedals and drilled and mounted the AC Pads on the SV assembly!!

Wow, Brent. Thats pretty complex and looks good. I dunno, surely theres room for an FE and a master cylinder, but still, this part of the build brings a bit more creativity and alot more options. I still cant decide on what type of pedal to go with, but Terry- thats an idea I never really thought of. I guess my main concern with the pedals is having enough room for my size 14's- probably not an easy task with any option.
As for the steering column, i'm liking the SVC section with the Borgeson joint idea. Thanks guys, Greg |
