Bodywork pics?
Does anyone have any pics handy of their SVC in the bodywork stages that they can post, please? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Greg |
Coupe
Yes I do. What do you want to see?
Dwight More pics in my gallery. If there is anything you want a pic of let me know. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...s_Coupe_1_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...um/s_Coupe.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...me_shop_1_.JPG |
Coupe
Coupe is in the paint shop. Mike had the body shop to raise the hood scoop 1 1/2" to clear the air filter on his KC 408. The exhaust opening for the radiator had to be moved forward 1" the clear the sheetmetal and alternator. Lots of problems with the Shell Valley Coupe. A hole had to be cut in the fender well to clear the master cylinder. The body shop is going to fiberglass a bubble over the hole so it will look good.
Dwight http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...-11-08_12_.JPG Mike had the shop to cut a hole in the scoop for cool air to the carb. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...-11-08_10_.JPG Mike send the door window back to Shell Valley and they are re-designing them. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Coupe_28_.JPG We must remember that the Coupe is a race car. But we want it to look like a show car, so I made end pieces to cover the holes between the dash and body. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCN1657.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCN1658.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...2-11-08_4_.JPG 20 hours cutting and welding the rear window frame so it would fit. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/DSCN1498.JPG |
That is very nice, Dwight. Looks like a fun car to build...and i'm sure all the hard work will be more than worth it when it's ready. Thank you for taking the time to post them as well. I am looking for bodywork type pics, basically to see what others go through throughout the bodywork phase, and exactly what is necessary on the Cobra body...
More specifically, I'd like to have a hand in the bodywork task, as I believe doing the work yourself is rewarding...but i'm NOT a body man. LOL The guy who is supposed to do the work on mine has me talked into block sanding the body with 180 grit. He says it will give me the "feel", but i'd have to do something pretty bad to mess it up. He also states that with a little practice, I could "spread the mud and sand it too". He also says he would basically cover the entire body in filler and fine tune it from there. I was OK with the idea til then. %/ Again, I am not a bodyman, and I have enough respect for those who DO do it to know theres more too it than just spreading "mud" and reaching for a sanding block. With this in mind, im curious as to what other SVC Cobras go through to make them look great. I figured i'd try the short version first, and not bore every one. LOL Thanks again, and have a great weekend! Greg |
Paint and filler
blueovalfanatic, I misunderstood your question. I did not know you want to do your own body prep work. The Shell Valley body has a lot of the body prep work done at the factory. But there is still a lot of work that has to be done to get it ready for a show type paint job. Have you seen some of the other kit bodies? Rough, very rough. I have done just enough bodywork to know that I would not like to do it for a living. And fiberglass is different than metal bodies. In our group a few of the guys have done the prep work on their Cobras and let a shop spray the paint. Their paint job turned out real good.
I think you have to be born with the skill to do a "GREAT" paint job. Dwight PS the Coupe will receive Black paint with a Silver strip. Black shows all the imperfection of the body. So, if you see an awesome black paint job, it took a LOT of work to get it to look that way. |
paint job
This is a couple of pics of Coach Mike old Cobra. He will use the same paint scheme for his Coupe. Different painter.

I did my own bodywork and paint prep on my SV. I'm no expert, but I had about 200 hours in fiberglass work and another 100 hours or so in paint prep. A pro could have done it in a lot less time, but I'm very happy with the results. There are a few pics in my gallery.
Sydney |
Nice pics, Sydney. Looks like it came out pretty darn good to me! LOL Also, I noticed you did what I am doing...only putting the dropped foot box on the drivers side.
Thanks, Greg |
