Side Pipe Rattle Woes
I have a 4 into 1 side pipes that slip onto the 4 header pipes just inside the exhaust opening. tabs are welded on one of the pipes, and a "bridge piece" is bolted to them to secure the assembly. I have tried about everything (copper RTV, aluminum foil, muffler bandage strips, duct tape, etc.) to quiet them down. All this stuff works for about a day or two, and then "blows out" I've thought about "screwing" all the pipes together with self tapping sheet metal screws, but that seems way too Mickey Mouse. Anybody have experience with this problem? :confused:

Mine are screwed together with sheet metal screws.
Signed - Mickey Mouse!!!! Seriously - several of mine are held together with sheet metal screws and a few are held together with steel blind rivets as they were easier to do that way. Corey |

Try finding a tailpipe expander and enlarge the last couple of inches to the header tubes. A muffler shop can do the same, it takes a bit of power to expand some tubes (because of wall thickness). You may want to try 1, or 2 tubes at first and this may do the trick. If you do all of them, it's a ***** to fit them into to sidepipe. Go slow and find the right fit. Scratch... |
