Big Brakes question

I've got Mustang II type front suspension that has nine inch front brakes and it's not nearly enough. I've looked at kits by S.S. and others, but the prices are really high. I have heard that the calipers and rotors from some other car will fit correctly on the Mustang II spindles. I even have room for 13" brakes. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks!!

Bentl11,,
Are you planning on running 15 or17 inch wheels? The reason I ask is that will be your limiting factor. I don't believe you can get 13" brakes under 15" wheels. Steve

Big Brakes

I went with the Team Three 17" wheels and they appear to have more than enough room for 13"ers. Heaven knows, this car needs the bigger brakes!!!!!! I hit the ones I have now at about 140+ and I thought it would never stop.

Larger Brakes

If you want to stay with a production car type brake the
Granada front rotor is a common upgrade from the standard Mustang II rotor. It is often mated with a 73 up GM caliper.
There is an adapter bracket required to mate the GM caliper to the Granada rotor. A better upgrade is a 4 piston caliper available from several vendors.

Following the theory that an excess of [fill in the blank] is almost enough, I went with Baer 13" brakes. They may cost a bit more but will survive the odd driving school and other high spirited use just fine.

Having a $10K engine and $100 brakes never made much sense to me!

Go hard, stop hard!

As a real quick and inexpensive short term aid to the problem, install a set of Performance Friction carbon mettalic brake pads. They only cost about $35 and make a world of difference. The hotter they get, the better they stop. This way you can have some decent braking until you do all the swapout work.
