please clarify stoker396
I am confused about the stroker 351W. I have seen a .030 overbore with a 3.85 stroke called a 392, a 393, and a 396cid engine. I am currently awaiting my 396 to be installed. Are they all the same, just calculated using different formulas? Does it have something to do with lenght of the rod and piston combo ( I have 5.956 ESP rods with KB pistons) ? Thanks for the info, Less than two weeks away from being on the road.

I seem to remember running the combo on a cubic inch calculator. With a .030 overbore and the 3.85 in stroke it came out to be 392.9 something or other. Most just call it the 393. with a .040 overbore you are closer to 396 and some just say it sounds better as in the old chevy 396. Either way it is an awesome motor,caLL it what you want it doesn't matter to me. Mine will have the 289 HI-PO decals on the air cleaner anyway.

here is a site with an excellent java engine size calculator
http://www.prestage.com/carmath/calc_cid.asp KIT BORE STROKE ACTUAL SIZE 351 4.000 3.50 351.86 357 4.030 3.50 357.16 372 4.030 3.64 371.44 377 4.030 3.70 377.57 393 4.030 3.85 392.87 408 4.030 4.00 408.18 416 4.050 4.05 417.39 427 4.030 4.17 425.53 435 4.030 4.27 435.73 and the monster 351w 454 4.125 4.25 454.38 http://www.flatlanderracing.com/stroker351w454.html I also think the 396 is just the 392.87. Most 396 kits advertise a 3.85" stroke...with a 4.030 bore that is the 392. If the bore is 4.050, then it would be a 396.78 ...maybe that is where it comes from? Andy http://www.cobralads.com |
