Canton oil pan
I have some questions on Canton pans. Will the 15-694 part number fit my 351W and will it clear the Blue Thunder main stud girdle? Also, what oil pickup is used with this pan?

I don't know about the 694, but there are two of us in this area using 15-680 T- pans on 351Ws. I called Canton, and they were very helpful in recommending a matching pickup (15-661). They'd be able to answer your pickup and probably your clearance question as well.

Canton 15-694
Yes, the 15-694 351W rear sump road race oil pan will fit the BT main cap girdle. You will have to flatten the crank scraper is all. Or, if you have yet to order a pan, it can be made to fit the girdle-which is what we do on all of the Canton's we sell. The pick-up you will need is 15-695.

Oh, I didn't realize that this was a rear sump pan. I was planning to use a front sump. I've had a hard time finding any info about Canton on the web. I hope to get their catalog soon so that I can see what they look like.

Front Sump Pan
Pat,
I kind of wondered why you were asking about a rear sump, that's why I thought I'd describe it for you. The pan you want is a 15-680, which is the front sump 351W road race "T" pan. The std "T" pan w/o trap door baffles is 15-660, but for the $50 extra, I recommend the road race version. Pick-up tube is 15-661. The front sump also fits with the girdle, with the same "fitting" of the crank scraper I wrote about above. You do have to bend the dip stick a bit to clear the MCG, so make sure you fit it BEFORE you put the pan on. I may have one of the 15-680's in stock if you are interested. Check the width between your frame rails. The pan is 13-1/2" wide, which just fits on most Cobra's. A narrower "T" sump can be made, as one kit out there is too narrow-don't remember which one. We just put a 408W with one of these pans in a Superformance, and it is snug. Rob |
I'm using the Canton 9 qt, baffled, roadrace oil pan, and a FPS crank windage tray which is made by Canton. Cobras with the lighter 351 block motors are notorious for cornering at 1g, and you don't want to go loosing your oil pressure in a tight turn, road course, or freeway exit ramp. The pan has a crank scraper welded to the side that may need clearancing with a die grinder before final install with other sump accessories. It's the same depth as a stock Ford pan so you don't give up any road clearance, but the "T" in front is wider. Fits the CR frame just fine, but as mentioned, other brands may need checking and clearancing.
That being said, these pans oughta be "Must install" on any Cobra. |
Thanks for the info guys. I don't have a car yet and haven't fully decided wich one yet so I'll hold off on this purchase for a bit. In the meantime, I'll keep building up my 393W. This will probably go into a Unique or ERA.
