Cam-lock seat belt
After reading about the club member who died in the car accident I've been concidering replacing my older latch type seat belts with a new cam-lock setup. Hooking up all the straps is a real hassle. To hook the shoulder straps up you have to undo the lap belt ad start stacking strap ends on one side of the lap belt. As you're reaching for the other side some strap ends fall off .It's aggrivating. I remember watching Fredd H ay SIR and the ease of hooking up, adding one end at a time. It's been observed that if it isn't convient the small stuff is left out. Besides my belts are older and no longer have the date lables.
Now on to the Question which brands and which sources does anybody reccamend .What featurers do you like or dislike ? Who has a deal? Cheap isn't allways a deal when it's something important that you'll have to live with for a long time. Mike |

There are lots of good ones. I try to stay away from any camlocks that are "push to release" types, since they seemed to be able to be accidentally opened fairly easily. I have Schroth camlocks in my Cobra now. They were recommended by Chad at Sube Sports (Sube sells many brands) for open cars because they don't strech much, which could matter if you are upside down in an open car. They have nice built in pads for your shoulders, easy to grasp adjusters, and a latch that is inset into the buckle so you can't accidentally open it. I have also had Sparco and Sabelt camlocks in the past, and have good things to say about them as well. Best of luck.

Simpson, Sparco, and Crow are top on my list. Personally, I prefer the non cam lock style latch, but to each his own. The key to anything you do in regards to safety equipment is to make sure that everything is up to date, and is mounted correctly. Otherwise, we have alll read the thread and heard the consequences..............

One thing I found interesting is that seat belts are not supposed to be more than 3 years old. U/V light deteriorates the nylon. I bought my car used, and the belts were dated 1988, yes 13 years old. After I bought a replacement set I did find out you can have your seat belts re-webbed and save some $$$.
I also have the non-cam lock style and it's a snap :p to latch. |
