Rear Suspension upgrade

Last year i became the new owner of a 1990 build of a B&B cobra, all is good, considering its age, one thing i need advice on is upgrading the rear suspension. Forgive me for poor terminology.....it has coil springs in the rear, with shock absorbers, they do not run up the center of the spring, there is a bottoming out occurrence quite often, especially with a passenger aboard. .When i had the car inspected i also at the time had 2 rubber discs placed in the top spring cups to add a little height, it did but not enough. Would it be possible to replace the stock shocks with something beefier, perhaps something with a coil wrapped spring to stop the movement or do i need to replace the springs themselves with something stiffer, or is it possible to place some rubber blocking around the spring to help out. There is a photo in my gallery of the rear suspension setup and it is merely a street cruiser, no racing ......any advice would be appreciated...regards

Hello Bubba622

I bought a B&B cobra with the same rear suspension set up as yours, with the same problems. I was going to replace the rear Cargo Spring set up with coil overs. After researching...There was quite a bit to do and not just swapping out one for the other. I would have to move my brake lines, Fuel line and have some brackets welded to create space for the Coilovers.

So I ended up replacing the Cargo Coil with new Cargo Coils for now. If you go this route.
The Brand you want to get is Moog Cargo Coils part # 8558. The new Cargo springs will be really stiff at first. They'll relax after a few miles but I decided to have a shop cut a little off to lower my stance.

Cargo coils I bought.

I did convert the front suspension to coilovers and really like the results. Very comfy.

You will also need to purchase these wrenches to adjust the coil overs.

I hope this helps
