hydraulic fitting sealant

After replacing my clutch slave cylinder this weekend, I’m getting a minor leak where the hydraulic hose screws into the slave. Can anyone recommend a sealant for the fitting threads?

Loctite has one in a small tube, called thread sealant. Says used by OEMs. It's a white sealant and worked for me. I got it at NAPA.

Replace the fittings. Hydraulics fittings don't leak if they are in even reasonable shape. They are not designed for the use of a sealant like a pipe tapered fitting.

Another vote for replacing the fittings. They shouldn't leak if properly made and applied. If you're getting fluid out of the fittings, given the amount of pressure a hydraulic system creates, it's unlikely that thread sealant will correct the problem. I'm well aware that getting to some of the fittings can be a real nightmare but bite the bullet. When it comes to hydraulics you really want it done correctly.

The fitting that "typically" threads into the slave is a pipe thread (where it threads into the slave). In that case, new or old fitting, use a teflon paste. Don't use Teflon tape as it tends to shread and enter the fluid stream.

There are "straight thread" fittings that use a copper crush ring or some type of o-ring but as far as clutch slaves they tend to be the exception, not the rule.

Put the car back on jacks last night. The leak is coming from where the fitting screws into the slave. Can’t tighten the 90 degree elbow fitting anymore without getting a longer hydraulic line. Will get a new fitting, longer hydraulic line, and a backup slave (in case I’ve stripped the threads). Will also get some Teflon paste.

Thanks
